Even a tug test isnt enough. A tug test can be deceiving. When drivers drop trailers, when do they drop them? Usually while turning. Tug tests are done going straight.
Do the tug test, get out and check the 5th wheel. I know its alot of work, and you might burn like 3 calories, but just ####### do it!skellr, Cudascious and harleysmith64 Thank this. -
I do check my 5th wheel. Everytime. Id like to keep my trailer with me til I decide to unhook from it.

When I was with swift I was OCD about checking it. Because people hate swift and tend to do mean things to get the video. Sense then I do tug test and visual look when hooking up. I have however gotten lazy with checking it in the mornings and after leaving the truck awhile. I'll have to get back on that.

Here are a few pics I took of the incident... Notice the passenger side landing gear is still up, but touching the ground.

Aside from a tug test and looking at the jaws.
Check the tandems too. Make sure they're locked as well. -
