You listed yourself as a student, please don't put the cart before the horse. First check into insurance to be sure you can find coverage.
I did all the paperwork myself and saved $$ over having someone else do it for me. That put me in the loop, knowing what was all involved.
So you want to "own " your own company

Just curious. I know I couldn't do it based on what I've seen some flat bed drivers struggle with. But, I'm pretty lazy anyway. Good luck. Only advice, for what it's worth, don't get sucked in to Swift's lease program. Strictly designed to benefit the company.

Gears, can you explain the load board better to me and how I can take advantage of it. That's may be the website or platform on which I can get the workings of the load board. Thanks
-
Pretty self explanatory really. Head to a load board, some let you do sample searches. Searches are like doing a search here. You provide the criteria and the results are forthcoming. There's quite a few loadboards out there, google 'em and check 'em out.

Thanks gears. I just got my CDL and am looking at starting my own trucking company. Do I go with 24' box truck or 28' tractor + trailer. Whats my best option. And is it the best to use agents now or go on the loadboard. Thanks

You don't need an attorney. There are companies that will do the paperwork for you, but you can do it for yourself and save the money. If you don't want to do it yourself give OOIDA a call. They can do it for you. www.ooida.com is their website. If you want to give them a call it should be on their website or just google ooida (Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association) -
You just got your CDL and want to start your own company? While I admire your drive & determination, there's things that come before all that, experience is one of them. You need some.
You'll also need to see if you can get insurance running under your own Authority. If you want to lease your truck to a carrier, you'll need a couple years of experience before they'll take you on.
What's your plans?bullhaulerswife, trucker43 and maxshield Thank this. -
Let me see if I got this straight Night Wind, work hard as heck, slim chance of surviving, bills and paperwork will out number you 2 to 1, IRS will haunt you if you don't get it right, brokers will cheat you if you don't keep an eye on them, and everyone you love might abandon you...do I have it right, its you and the highway against the world....sounds like fun, I' ready!! Wait like you said I better wait until after I get the 6 mos float money.
Is it any easier to lease?trucker43 Thanks this. -
Merry christmas all. Does anyone know any trucking company that wil give someone that just got CDL A chance of getting experience.
