Hi all.... Next month I have the option to switch out of an 08 ProStar and into the 780. 2012 model year.
I know they didn't get the work station with it and as of yet I'm not sure what its got for an engine but I was looking for any comments from 780 drivers as to how they like the truck.
The prostar has an ISX 485/500 in it and 300,000 miles and so far I'm pretty happy with it and am wondering if I should make the switch.
    Thanks and Happy Holidays!

some drivers love Volvo, and they say better the Volkvo is Volvo, some not. I really like Volvo cab and sleeper, its smooth ride, but I do not to fix wires, SCR system, cpmplicated light unit...

This year I've been surprized with new Mack. All internals are Volvo Powertrainme, but I like MACK cab!!!!

The Volvo cab is steel, so it is heavier, if that makes a difference to you. It is also much safer in a severe wreck. I think the 780 is the most liveable cab, short of one of those mega sleepers. If the Volvo has a Volvo engine, then you are limited to Volvo shops for engine repair. A Cummins is serviceable in many more places. The 780 may have an air ride front axle, if so it will be one of the smoothest riding trucks on the road.

    volvo1026 Thanks this.

The air ride front axle handles just fine.

I guess the change in how it feels is sort of like going from a fixed cab to an air ride cab. The sensation of how it leans is a bit different, but not that much.

Mine is rated at 13,200 and with a 530 ISX, 13 speed, and an APU I'm around 12,300-12,400 all the time on the steers with the fifth whell one notch forward of centered over my drives. So I have run 11R24.5's and now went to load range H 16 plies on 24.5 low pros to have the tire weight capacity.

I'd go for it. Cab will be bigger and roomier than the prostar you are currently in. Finally it will be more driver friendly and quieter.

I drove a 780 for a year in 06' it had the air front axle and when it went into a corner it had way more lean than any othertruck i've driven with that said it was by far the smoothest, quietest and most comfortable truck i've driven.

Thanks guys- I have a little time before I decide.
I like the idea of the volvo being brand new vs. 4 years old as is the case with the prostar.
It doesn't have the work station though and I'm wondering if that also means no pull out for use as a writing/eating surface but I'll figure that out when I have a better look at it.
Also am not sure if they have anti-idle activated on it.
