I have recently joined the world as a lease op and for the moment i'm wishing that i hadn't.. Its been rough and rocky to say the least... I have heard that ooida is good for owners/lease ops and i was wondering if someone could tell me what i would gain by enrolling with them... Thanks for any advice in advance.. Bam

You get a really cool window sticker.

I don't know what services they would offer you as a lease op that you wouldn't be getting through whoever you're leased with but for independent guys they do some paperwork filing for us, offer some decent insurance rates, do financing, have a fuel network, act as a process server, have a drug testing consortium etc etc etc.
virgil tatro Thanks this. -
I have been a member of OOIDA for a long time and I pay my yearly fee and get their magazine. The two times that I have used their services was a program they had when I bought a new Peterbilt and got a rebate check for $1500 and when I got my authority I called them and they filed my BOC-3 for free. I have also called them on a few questions in the past and they were helpful. So to me it is worth it and I will keep being a member.

I think that they are geared more toward the O/O than the fleece purchase. They are also a business, so they do "sell " there services,(I know that not everyone's going to agree) with that being said If you are in a fleece purchase what ever you signed ,you are bound to, unless their is something that can be considered a class action.
GOOD LUCK

What you should have done,..........I know hine sight is 20/20, was join OOIDA first then sent them your flease agreement and they would have went over it with you in detail.
Still might not hurt to join and do it anyways, but I cant really say after the fact.Mommas_money_maker, Hardlyevr and virgil tatro Thank this. -
I agree with what the others here have said....I'm a "Life Member" of OOIDA and have some insurance through them and have used some of their other services as well.
Any minute now all of the halfwits will come in here and start yapping about how OOIDA is too political or isn't as effective as they want them to be and there are even some idiots here that claim that they're a "government" organization on some level.
Over the years they have done some good things for O/O's and even for company hands.
They are for all intents and purposes a voice for the "independent" and that's more than good enough for me.Big John, fortycalglock, scatruck and 10 others Thank this. -
I've been a member of OOIDA since long before I even thought about going O/O. I figure I've gotten my money's worth just in the hours worth of free legal and compliance advice I've gotten from them over the phone, let alone the voice they give us in DC and keeping us updated on pending legislation.

I'll join OOIDA when they go after Uship.

My father and I are both "life members" of OOIDA for some time now. They do quite a few things that the average L/O, O/O. or even a company driver realize. For the company driver guy they have fought for the HOS, EOBR, the Minesotta Highway Patrol "fatigue checklist" and a few other things. The L/O and O/O have also benefited from OOIDA's fights on the previous listed along with the many other issues. These others are the fight against some of the shady wording in lease contracts and lease purchase contracts, trying to raise the broker bond amount, rallying support in Washington for our industry, shady insider lumper/reciever agreements, and many other problems we face. They also offer services to memebers when it comes to looking over lease contracts, fuel card and tire services (through Truckers Advantage), life insurance policies, and insurance for your complete operation. My opinion is that all drivers should take a hard look at OOIDA and the things they have stood up for compared to the things the ATA (American Trucking Association...another words the majority if the mega fleets) have pushed down the industries throat.
