How many drivers that have been guilty have had the charges reduced or dismissed when properly represented ?
My asking for insurance wasn't really an individual request . Any member in the state would get the same answer .
Too many drivers feel they are doing their part having their voice heard by paying OOIDA to speak for them . If more drivers would contact their representatives individually it would be more effective but few want to make the effort .

That's what attorneys are for.
I have a lot of insurance through OOIDA although my primary insurance is through my carrier.
I agree and have been in contact with my representatives many times regarding issues that concern my business and my industry.
I also believe that drivers who join OOIDA and don't do anything other than support the organization are still doing more for us that those who don't do anything at all.virgil tatro, G/MAN and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
Contacting your representative AND having OOIDA is an even bigger voice, which we need so we can go against all these window licking, hold their hands, all our kids are winners, entitlement, trucker hating losers and their "Save the World" organizations.virgil tatro Thanks this. -
You should just really say what you mean.

I am with you about OOIDA, contacting your representative etc.
I would also be for removing the ATA puppet between Congress & large trucking co's. -
OOIDA does alot, far more than one thinks they do. for the 45 dollar membership fee even if you never use them personally they are the ones fighting for truckers. When I call my state representatives and tell them i am a Trucker and an OOIDA member they know exactally who i am talking about.. I firmly believe in OOIDA.. they have done alot for me, if the membership fee were 100 dollars i would still be a member...OOIDA all the way...

I got a chuckle out of a couple of these postings here. Some like to have an organization like OOIDA lobbying for their concerns, yet they don't like carriers being a part of an organization that lobbies for their concerns. Almost seems like the same mindset of those that are hardly paying any federal income tax demanding so-called "rich" pay a higher percentage in income tax. The "I want, but you can't have" mentality.
I am a member of OOIDA and have been for several years. I agree most times with what they promote, and sometimes I don't. I don't really use any of the insurance or financial services they offer, but I like that they have them for others and for me if I need it. Likewise, I have no problem with carriers having the ATA, TCA, or whatever. Yet, I have considerable problems with the stand that these organizations take. It is what the political process is. I wouldn't want any organized group to be restricted in promoting their members concerns. If the government starts restricting one group, they will eventually restrict all groups.
If drivers would be a part of the process by partnering with a group like OOIDA instead of just cursing the darkness, then OOIDA might actually be able to have more leverage and be a strong counter force to the carrier sponsored organizations. There is not one driver in this country that could not afford the $45 annual dues ($25 around Christmas time), and also kick in something like $50 a year for the legislative lobbying arm of OOIDA.
There have been times that OOIDA took a position on something that I disagreed with. There is no perfect organization. But I haven't jumped ship over things we disagree with. There are many other things I do agree with them on. At least it is a voice, albeit a smaller voice than the carriers have.
And any driver can join.... independent O/O, Lease O/O, company driver, and even non drivers! Many companies that make products for the trucking industry can be, and are, partners with OOIDA, and some are even legitimate members as well.
When one takes a close look at what OOIDA does, it is really amazing how they do so much with what they have to work with. It is one of the more efficiently run organizations in the country.Big John, rollin coal, G/MAN and 4 others Thank this. -
Another thing I don't like about OOiDA is their arrogant attitude . Put "OOIDA criticizes " in search and see they've bad mouthed every agency and organization in the industry . I remember when they wrote to ATA members asking them to protest a stand taken on one issue . It's one thing to have an opposing view . You don't get cooperation by publicly badmouthing the agency or organization you are trying to negotiate with .
