    Of course there is always the option of buying a brand new truck with a pre-emissions rebuilt engine and tranny in it complete with all warranties you would get with a similar new truck with all the emissions laden stuff. Traditionally known as a glider kit truck. That eliminates the issue of a carrier not wanting a truck that is older than xx years. Eliminates the emissions component problems. Eliminates the Federal Excise Tax of a totally new truck. And you can still run 47 of the 48 contiguous states, Alaska, and Canda with no problems. Totally legal in all aspects.

    A dealer near me recently was working with me on spec'ing out one of these. We loaded that truck up with just about everything available from the factory. Similar new production truck with new emissions engine would come in at around $140-$150 thousand and have 12.5% Federal Excise tax on it. This one we worked up, the invoice price came in at around $105 thousand and no Federal Excise tax. You work the numbers and see if it was worth it.

    Haven't decided yet to pull the trigger on getting it. Still in the early stages of the process.

    The $105,000 ready to go trucking and what kind of truck?
    With a reman engine or trans from the dealer or with your engine or trans?

    I have been kicking the idea of a new Peterbilt 389 Kit for awhile and I have a pre-emission ISX that I like real well.

    Not a bad idea CP.... Get a 379 glider, New pre-em Yamaha ( dealer has several on floor skids ) and a new tranny and rears. ..... in fact I think you can order the glider anyway you want... ( with rears, tranny etc. ) And score that 12.5 % tax..... wait

    You are sure about that ....yes?

    I would think twice and run the numbers based on 3-4 year ROI before doing anything with pre-EGR. CARB is having more impact on industry than what any of us would like to think. Other states with EPA issues have just had the cost justification bar lowered allowing them to consider adopting CARB rules.

    And if you are running this as a business then you need to consider this.
