I'm thinking of coming back as I was just laid off last Friday from a non driving job as the work died out for now. Been trying to get local or regional jobs driving jobs around here, but just don't quite have enough driving time in yet.

What is the home time for regional drivers and is it consistent? Is it one day or two? How are the miles for regional? Is home time weekends? Of course this is all dependent if they hire me back for regional as I only drove for 6 months. Had some family issues that needed more time and it interfered with driving. I left on good terms and the DAC reflects that.

I liked Roehl but OTR just wasn't working out. I sent in a request for information a few hours ago to the recruiter email online for regional. But I'm sure it will take a day or so for them to get back to me.

If you left on good terms it shouldn't be an issue, when I was working there we hired the same guy 3 times in one year.

    Treefork Thanks this.

Well I'll add my two cents since I started back at Roehl in June as a Midwest Regional driver. I run out of Indiana and I live on a East/West North/South freight lane so it's usually pretty easy to get me home. I am home every weekend, typically on Friday night or Saturday morning. I always have a load on when home unless I deliver locally. The only times I've not been home on a weekend is when I requested to stay out in order to make a little extra or if I needed to be home early the next week. Time home is always at least 34 hours (they want you to reset every time) and many times I'm home for up to 48 depending on where my load delivers. Feel free to private message if you want more info or ask here.

Roehl is one of my top choices if I can't find a local gig after I get out of school, and that Midwest regional route doesn't sound bad at all. Treefork, would someone right out of training with Roehl be able to run regional like that?

I'm not sure, may have to run national for a stretch first. During the summer I may have 5 loads in 5 days. They may want to make sure a new driver can manage time well for that. Honestly though, I'm not sure you'd have to talk to someone in recruiting to be certain.

What is the nature of Roehl Regional? Is there alot of driver unload/driver assist? Do you spend much time between loads waiting for your next load plan or are you preplanned alot? The significant factor that will eventually drive me away from OTR is the vast amount of time wasted away from home.

I can't speak for the van side as I run flatbeds. During the summer I'm preplanned pretty consistently. Wintertime can be different due to slowdowns on flatbed. Not as many preplans. Regardless of OTR or Regional you're going to spend a good deal of time away from home. If that is a killing point for you then this part of the industry may not be for you.

    I'm back!

I had left on good terms and had no problems with the re-hire process. They made me an offer and are giving me a sign on bonus after I am done with the orientation and special advanced four day driving test. My DOT card is up to date so I don't need a physical but have to do the mandatory drug test and pre-orientation "physical challenge". I passed it last time with a bad hand, and this time both work so it should be fine. lol..

If I can get a 34 hour reset on home time, that would be excellent. On van national I ran hard towards the end and ended up out of hours every 5-6 days.
