Ditto on the tethering. At least while I was with sprint. But since they started charging for the roaming even tho I had an unlimited data plan, I took over my wifes unlimited data line. Havent tried their Hot Spot service yet...

I used a Verizon air card for 2 1/2 years while OTR. Worked almost everywhere, was more secure than public wi-fi, and I didn't have to rely on staying at a particular brand name truckstop. It was limited to 5 GB so not good for streaming video. Served it's purpose for surfing, I-Heart radio, and bill pay etc.

I have a hot spot
But all the big chains have wifi
$1.99/hr
$4.99/24 continous hours
$19.99/month
$150/year
They all work pretty good, some better then others

Wifi card but I have a blackberry so I can just do as much on my blackberry but only if I can get clear service.

I use a Verizon 4g hotspot, I play some mmo games in my laptop daily and other times browse in the iPad using it. Truckstop Internet is usually satellite based and has high latency, so not recommended I you like Online gaming.

Truck stop wifis are okay if you are just starting out and don't have money to get anything else. Bosslemans is always free but really slow and you have to be close to the store to get a signal. The others charge for wifi and Pilot and TA keep track of your usage. Use to much and they slow it down for you. If you are relying on truckstop wifi when you first start out always get the monthly service it will be cheaper for you in the long run. Your best bet is to save up money and get your own.

If you want to maximize your chances for success with truck stop wifi you should get a directional wifi antenna. Point it towards the direction of the signal and it will really boost performance.
If you want cheap, or are just geeky you can make your own out of a pringles can! Might even be able to find and pull in a distant "free" hot spot.

It really depends. I have found the WiFi at TA and Petro to be better than Pilot or Flying J. Sometimes you can have full bars and have a slow connection. Other times I've had 2-3 bars and had a great connection. It really depends on where you are in the country and sometimes how far away you are from the main building. TA/Petro seem to be really good at having several hotspots available in their lot.
I also found it odd that some places I've been to I couldn't get Facebook to load in my browser but I could do some online gaming just fine. Oh and I also found out Subway censors their internet. I could surf most of my usual places just fine but it blocked Okcupid.
