Bad oil sample

    I called the local pete dealer n the miles can be verified for the last 3 years. So I know the odometer wasnt changed within 3 years. The truck, engine compartment, engine, all of it sure looks like 276,000 miles.

    Change oil, and run it. Get another oil sample at 8-10 thousand miles. You could of had wear from moisture from sitting, or constant starting and stopping of the engine. You need your own baseline to start from. That is, unless your oil pressure is too low for your engine.

    It also wouldn't be a bad idea to have a dyno report done.

    Copper could also be from the oil cooler.

    Call your local CAT dealer and speak with the "Truck TC". If you give him your engine serial number, he can get you the history of what's been done (provided it's been into an authorized shop). I agree, don't make decisions on the basis of 1 oil sample.
