    Thats the truth!

My pay per mile has been about the same since the early 1990's...:biggrin_25513:

At least i'm with a small 12 truck company,no tracking devices on truck and loose leaf logs.
Paid for every mile we write down and get 5 bucks for each 1000 pounds hauled in the wagon.

I consider it a good gig and will never go back to a bigger company!

Agree on the mileage pay...It has not increased with the cost of living over the past 20 some years! Dang shame!

I am sure the freight rates have not been stagnant and the corporate salaries have not as well.

no, what there is, is a shortage of drivers are willing to work, they would rather sit home and collect unemployment. Our rough starting wage for drivers comes out to about $40,000 per yr plus benefits, yet we can't get good drivers because they don't want to work very hard. My job can be detail and paperwork intense, and these yahoo's want to stare out the windshield and nothing else.

My husband will take that $40k first year plus benefits, and jump for joy. He came from an industry where w/ 20 years experience, he was paid $32k to $35k/year with NO benefits.

How is it that only truck drivers are paid this way?
The illegal immigrants that sit and wait for work at home depot get paid by the hour! ( Once picked up and taken to job site/home)

How is it that some company pay practical mileage where as some pay HHG?
Shouldnt every company out there be on a level playing field?

I think the gooberment needs to focus on regulating pay/compensation to drivers rather than when they can drive and for how long yada yada!

How is it that companies claim driver shortage, but dont hire?
How is it that Truck Drivers make the world go round, but are finding that its harder and harder to find parking, and amenities while out on the road?
How is it that homeless/peddlers/thieves/lowlife scum think truck drivers are so wealthy/rich!!??
A homeless guy begging for money at the truckstop cant tell if that guy/gal is getting out of a company truck or is an O/O. But you hardly see that same homeless guy sitting over on the 4 wheeler side begging for money from that guy that just rolled up in a bmw!

It may not REQUIRE a PHD to drive a truck, but to be classified as an unskilled labor, thats for the birds! Working at McD's should be considered an unskilled labor, stocking shelves at wal mart, retrieving shopping carts, should be considered an unskilled labor!
Try paying someone at McD's the equilevant (?) to CPM! For every burger made, they get paid .25 cents! Tell the cart retrival guy, for every cart retrieved you'll get paid .25 cents! See how well that works!

Until the gooberment does something about it.....keep on trucking!

Leave. There are good companies out there. I worked mileage for 3 months in the late 80's (local not OTR). Actual miles and hourly pay as well. When the miles dropped, so did the pay. That didn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

It's been a nice time here at my company. Write down your time in and out. Show your straight pay, overtime pay, doubletime pay, doubletime and a half pay, sick pay, holiday pay, jury duty pay
Family sick leave pay, bereavment pay and unpaid time off.

It's really easy. Every two weeks we fax our time cards into human resources with the fax machines they provided us at home.

See, there are god jobs out there but you have to find them. They aren't going to come looking for you. That is, unless you look at truckstop magazines. BTW, avoid those if you want to have a career instead of a job. Thats my advise!

    Drive safe

I agree with both of you . There is a shortage of good paying jobs . More and more good paying jobs are lost when BFI's go to private fleets and convince them to put their experienced drivers on the street and become a dedicated customer .
The high turnover is probably as much newbies deciding they don't want to work that hard as it is low wages .
Then there are some newbies that are willing to work but get wrongfully rejected by a trainer or terminated for some petty reason and get a bad DAC .

RickG, according to the ATA (their own numbers) 36% of newbies wash out in the first 90 days! That in itself is an astounding number...certainly nothing the ATA should be proud of.
