What Happened to your fuel mileage when you unplugged the egr? Have you had any egr problems, at all even though it was unplugged? I am interested in this because i know every motor is different.

Fuel mileage improved but just a tad. Have not had any other problems.
apyles Thanks this. -
I got a plate, pre-cut for the size of the port at the intake. PDI will sell you the plate. It is 1/4" steel. I just undid the EGR tube. The OEM adapter feeds a tube into the intake. I had to chop that off. Then I put the plate between that adapter and the intake. The original O ring seals up the plate to the intake. I used high temp gasket sealer to seal up the adapter to the plate.

So you just put the plate in and unplug the EGR valve? You don't have to get the turbo reprogrammed?

Pic of Pdi's blocking plate w/ Oring.

I havent got the guts to install mine just yet. -
EGR valve not unplugged. Could care less about it. Nothing is getting in the intake. I have not done any reprogramming of ECM or messed with any other components. Like I said, a few bucks and about an hour of my time. Less if I hadn't gone in the house for a cup of coffee and a smoke. I tend to take frequent breaks when working on the truck at home. Like to actually enjoy some of my time at home.
Will this mod harm anything? Hasn't harmed mine. Still original turbo, injectors, etc. I got the truck at 319,000 miles, the original owner did change the EGR valve. I never have. I now have 791,000 on it and only problem was a cam, but that was related to rocker problem that Cummins put out a tech bulletin on. The cam problem was totally unrelated to the modification. Oil samples look very good. And ever since I put the block in, my oil stays almost "out of the jug" clean for almost 10,000 miles after an oil change.
As a side note, I did the modification while engine was still in warranty. Took it to Cummins around 450,000 miles for a leaking front cover that was a warranty item. They knew I had done the mod and really could care less. They honored the warranty. I have only had one tech ever make a negative comment about it. My dealer shop could care less. My Cummins shop could care less.
Oh... I did start getting a fault code on the EGR valve about a year ago. Took it in to my dealer to see about the fault. Mike, my Cummins man at the dealer just chuckled and said the EGR took a dump. He knew about my mod and that I wouldn't change out the EGR valve. That valve is still sitting there looking dumb. -

Been to PDI's website, ebay, all over the place looking for this blocking plate. Have a link or can show me where the heck I can find one?
-
I think PDI has quite a bit of stuff like this they're not totally comfortable with advertising on their website, so you might want to give them a call. Better yet, buy it from Haney.

What is his website address?
