I dunno. I have been making some calls the past few days. Some rates are decent some are crap. I don't really negotiate as I am truly not gonna take the load. But I have my number and if its not even close, I wouldn't bother even trying. I mean if you need 2k to go somewheer and the broker is at like 1500 or less you know they aren't gonna do anything about it.
FREEBRD Thanks this. -
Like Native Dancer said....."If the rate isn't right....Don't turn the key to the right!!!"....
-
yeah. i mean I could see getting a load to get moving for a dime or so less a mile than you would normally like. Lets face it. What are you gonna do roll the truck or sit and idle for another day? But to take something so cheap it barely pays fuel? I dunno about that.
-
Yup! That's why I installed a diesel fired bunk heater in the old truck.......I burn less than half a gallon in 10 hours. I will NOT haul cheap freight. If push Comes to shove, I'll drive home empty before I'll haul that cheap freight. A dime or so less is one thing, but rolling for expenses is B.S. and I wont do it, period.FREEBRD Thanks this.

Couldn't agree more. I am just starting up so an APU really wasn't in the budget. Would like to get one though within a year or two though. So far on the loads I have called about most were really close to what I want. I had a couple true lowballers and I just thanked them for their time. I was seriously insulted by the rate though.

Don't be insulted....If a broker offers a load of tarped lumber for $.50/m....Somebody is going to take it.....That's just how it is in trucking....Jfaulk99 Thanks this.

Oh. I know. Like I said I have a good rate going down. Its just the coming back. I am amazed that people accept .98 a mile as ok. Just bewilders me. I do reefer, which I know flatbed is wheer it seems to be at as I live in the Chicagoland area. At any rate some of the rates I see I am awestruck. Flatbed seems to be doing ok though...... For now. I remember 2009 when all the Mills weren't doing anything and people were getting into reefer because all the rates were so bad. Not too mention there wasn't a lot of work.

Which load board did you decide to subscribe to? What was your fee, how did you subcribe without a mc/dot number, and how long does your subscribtion last?
-
I do have active authority. That's the only way you can even get signed up. I went with members edge. The 44 dollar package. And my subscription autorenews till I stop the service.
