Yep. It was a hard day and we bombed a lot of beer fixing this truck.

BTW, just imagine how many people turn heads when they see old US cabover in Europe. Unfortunatly it is Euro-II engine so.... you undertand, EU is like CA. They want all drive new trucks of new emission standards.

I'm looking for a 1632/1638 or a 1644 for restoration...RHD...is there anything floating around South Africa King Q
-
The 1632 was set very lean. You had to increase the injector pop off pressure a few bar....advance the timing a few degrees..and increase the fuel delivery 'till she blew just a whisper of smoke between gear changes. If you increased the revs from 2500 to 3000rpm....Then you had a flying machine. The ZF nine speed(8 + crawler)gearbox had too much of a ratio gap between 7th & 8th. the Fuller 13 speed had a perfect spread of ratios and was very well suited to the V10 engine.
I saw several old 1632's tweaked with the Fuller 'box stay in with Scania 142 & 143's many years later.
Wish I could buy a new one today with the V10 engine turbocharged and the 13 speed Fuller gearbox.... -
well they were bulletproof
here is first NG from my father

we had many of them after this another 1632
than 2626 2632 ...2635 1635 1635.....
now 3535
and few SK but i dont like them too much because of bad gearboxes and door lining broke every week on construction trucks
PS you have Private message -
In SA the 6x4 configuration is what is mainly used with what is termed an interlink (B train) at 56000kgs.
We did get 2632 V10 but the 2636 V10 sold in greater numbers.
We also got V8 (422 TI) 2638 and 2633 (422 T).
In 4x2 we got 1926 and 1928 with V motors or 407 straight 6 motors.
We got the 2644 with a 442ti.
These trucks are still in use and demand here.
Mainly on construction and over border.
As for sending one from SA to Ireland , this would be like carting coals to New Castle.
In SA we are not allowed to import trucks so our 2nd hand trucks are expensive.
Our neighboring countries import thousands.
A lot of old Irish Mercs here.
I even have a (hope customs are not watching) "grey" imported 1821 rigid from Ireland.Last edited: Dec 30, 2011

scania 2and 3 series R cab floor height is around 1500mm +1440 or1660(topline)mm interior height
-
The problem here is there is no Mercedes tractor unit left in the country more than 10 years old....They are all exported! There are thousands of Volvos, and Scanias, and an awful lot of them restored now,but not a 16 series New Generation Merc to be found
-
no interior height from ground to truck floor
i want to compare 2series with US coe from early 80s and US conventions
