I posted over a month ago how my husband wasn't getting any pay or compensation while in school fine i get it thats the way it goes then he goes on the road with a driver trainer makes a wooping 280 a week for 21 day while trainer makes over 1000 a week. Now that he finished his training then sent him home for Christmas told him to call the day after and what do u think has happened ?????No call back onto the road he is ready to be upgraded and he has called everyday since the 26th. Ok so Now as of this week we will not be getting a check. He had to sign their little contract to work for them yet he is not working.....do u know how hard it is to get a job during a holiday week??? If they would have had him on the road this week we would have been paid next week but no now we have to go further in debt. Of course we called the headquarters and I have goten no response the driver coordinator isn't doing anything to get him on the road this company just doesn't care about their neew drivers. He graduated top of his class in 2 weeks their were guys that had been there for almost 4 weeks he finished all his training otr. You can't tell me that they have no drivers going through the entire state of ky to pick him up and take him to North Jackson ohio for his upgrade. Am I just not understanding something here we would drive him anywhere in ky for him to be picked up but unfortunately we dnt have the money to drive 14hrs to Ohio. Otherwise I would but they told us they would get him there for his upgrade so its not our responsability. I think he picked the wrong company to work for. Have we missed something ? Is there something we haven't done? I guess if someone would call us back we might find out. Thanks for letting me vent anyone have any ideas?

Well being the holidays, it might be true that they don't have anyone in your area. And a lot of the office people are probably off. May be why no one called you back. Plus the fact that he's not assigned a truck yet so he's kinda not on anyone's radar screen. When your new to the business, you hafta jump through a lot of hoops and play the waiting game. Hopefully after the first things will move forward as far as his upgrade and all. Best bet would be for him to find a way to the terminal instead of waiting for the company to set it up. Hope things work out for ya. Happy newyear

I'm sorry you're having a rough time, especially at the holidays.

That being said... I know you are new at this and don't really understand how freight moves so I'll try not to be a dick about this.

The months leading up to Christmas are the time that freight moves the most. From now until March or April the amount of loads, and therefore rates, goes into the toilet. I appreciate that you and your husband have sacrificed a lot to get to this point, but if a given company has a choice to support one of its proven, loyal drivers or a new employee right off a trainer's truck with available loads, it's a pretty obvious choice. He may be the most responsible, safe, and hard working driver on the road, but to them he is just an unknown quantity.

My advice for him would be to get some experience, and find a smaller company with a good reputation as soon as possible.

Sorry, and I hope things get better for you.

my advice this time of year is to refuse any loads that head into SoCal. Good luck getting out of there.
Anyways, last comment is good. This time of year is slow everywhere and always has been. Combine that with the economy and the freight just isnt there. Nothing a company can do about it.

There is 1 thing. They could stop hiring these folks in the first place and ramming visions of "the high pay highway" up their ##### during the known slow times.:biggrin_25525:

It's a numbers game to the mega carriers. Drivers like the ones above and the others wooed by the "high pay, high miles" are held in reserve because the attitude of the carriers is that they will be fighting for them when freight is good. I don't really blame the mega carriers for playing the game like that. If they don't do it, you know the competition will eat their lunch.

The real problem lies with the government and the regulations concerning driver pay. We are considered unskilled labor and are not subject to overtime or hourly pay rules. This has created, despite what mega carriers say, a driver surplus that encourages carriers to implement practices like this.

I am a Libertarian and would love to see less government and less regulation. That being said, I am not an anarchist and I do recognize the need for some regulation. What I would like to see is this industry being treated like all the others when it comes to labor, overtime, and hourly pay.

You could get away from dry van and go to reefer where you can cover 2 types of loads and stay loaded more.
