Did your husband talk with any drivers already working for this company before he went with them?? Sorry, but any post starting with "The recruiter said.." or "The recruiter told..." just shows a lack of research on the drivers part.

I worked for USX for 2 years and loved it. I had gripes with things but that's normal anywhere. Stick it out, don't be a job hopper. Everyone new to the game gets fed up and thinks the grass is greener. Grass only gets greener when you have some seniority and paid dues under your belt.

First let me start off with saying, I am not a fan of any huge company. And I knew starting with any mega trucking company would be about the same experience. I will be giving you an open look into my experience with USX this year in 2011.
USX Recruiter - I never believed a word this man said, not even when he stood at my CDL school promising the whole world and then some..
USX Training - Training is supposed to be about 150 hours, roughly around 3 - 4 weeks. However, I was in the summer months and my trainers truck had too many broken down days and many days of having a sailors mouth, swearing at my ownself why did I chose this company. Nonetheless I kept trucking on with a broken a/c, funky braking system, inconsistent wiring issues and so forth. But the A/C and cooking inside the rig for that many hours without a fix was just ridiculous for a company this size. Trainer was great, company motto on safety not so much. Please keep in mind this is after visiting several terminals, too many to count calls to breakdown, arguments about why we didn't do such a detailed pre trip when we have. And having someone tell us to just tough it out and deal with it in 115 degree weather outside and who knows about the inside.
Driving as an "official" USX Driver - I went thru 4 trucks in less than 4 months time. from older to new models. I constantly had to make sure payroll had my pay line items correct and anything else due to be paid.
Had a shipper forklift puncture a trailer, reported it and was given such hell for doing my duty , taking pictures and submitting them to claims and having the claims adjuster give me attitude and disrespect for doing the right thing. And making assumptions about something they had no idea about. This delayed me at the same shipper for 2 days and USX refused to pay me the designated pay I was owed. Instead took the cheap route as usual and I get robbed of pay owed to me. Typical.
Constantly had unprofessional coworkers on the phone, so disrespectful on the phone even after being patient , waiting and interacting respectfully. It seems, just like any mega company, many are hired who have no idea what they are doing. Have no regard for veteran drivers or for those who are respectful to them. This is primarily with the evening and weekend dispatch. However my regular day FM was pleasant to work with.
Perhaps this experience was just an unlucky for me particularly. But in my opinion I would never ever do business as a potential future client, or ever considering working for this particular place again. It was an absolutely disappointing experience from start to finish. And not to mention a very low paying positiong that equals to minimum wage after all the hours put into a week.
I would hope sometime soon the EMG of USX would consider revamping their way of conducting internal procedures and rather than badgering drivers to look at their own whom they have hired to run the company.
Yes I know there are good and bad experiences when it comes to this industry, however there should never be a lack of respect for your own coworker no matter what position. -
they (USX) suck just as much as covenant. i live in chattanooga and id pick up trash before i drove for either one of these places.

USX isn't all that bad. I wasn't making enough going solo so i switched to teams. Now the money is good.

Considering that USX and Covenant are owned by stepbrothers who can't be even remotely civil to each other in public, and spend more time and money trying to "one up" each other, can there be any question as to why both companies suck?

Ma'am, your problem starts with "The recruiter told my husband..." out of all honesty, aside from all the "super" OTR drivers claiming 070-80K a year....$387 a week sounds right for coolie carrier pay....Very sad but true...

My dislike for USX is well documented but you sound like one of those spoiled team drivers who will shut down if the reading light in the bunk burns out.
I worked that job almost 7 years and I guess I made it that long because I focused on making money and not who bad mouthed me over the phone.
There are about a hundred better reasons why someone would dislike a company like USX and you came out with some weak carp about rude coworkers and no AC? That happens at many company's big and small. -
