They have been talking strike for years....Will never happen....My idea is everybody stop hauling a certain commodity such as toilet paper, kleenexs, paper towels ect ect & let them start having to wipe their butt with their wall st journals & maybe theyll start listening...Most of those loads are hand unloads anyways....Until that happens expect more of the same & stock up on toilet paper first if this ever happens...

I run about the same miles and hours and $700 a week take home after all deductions including max 401k , health insurance , etc . would be a bad week . We don't have forced dispatch . Dispatch will e-mail us and ask if we want a load before we are assigned it .
The CEO at Schneider testified to the House Transportation Committee that his drivers got lower pay than they got in the 80's . You just verified that .

I read your post to say that there is nothing we can do (because you admit that the one solution you offer isn't realistic.) I disagree. If a solution doesn't seem realistic, then we have to think of another. And if that one doesn't work, another...

What Im saying is my idea would work a heck of a lot easier than telling everybody to get off the road for a few days.....Doesnt have to be TP even though we could get a lot more laughs out of that....Could be say oranges, toothpaste, tampons or whatever we would decide we want to run off the shelves for awhile.....Make people more appreciative of what delivers everything they use from birth to death....All around winning idea & I think then they would figure out a way to pay us better..

mgfg, your exactly right. There is going to be a flood of European drivers soon, and they will do the loads super cheap. They have a way of getting around paying taxes, They just dont pay them, and use someone Else's name on everything. Some think the Mexicans are causing the cheap rates, wait till the Europeans really start driving here. This was on the News, that there on there way here.:biggrin_2559:

Not as hard as you think.

All they have to do is the Lease Agreement with a company. Run for 3-4 years and maybe the IRS will catch up with them.

I have had clients go for 4 or 5 years and not file returns.

Thanks for clarifying. I completely agree that a shutdown is a nonstarter for so many people and for so many reasons.
For one, company drivers would be forced to run while independents lose out.
For two, not enough people would do it.
For three, it would serve no purpose without first declaring a demand.

This last obstacle, creating a demand, interests me most. If we said, "Let's shutdown until NAFTA disappears," I could get behind that. I don't think that truck drivers would agree much on a demand or a set of demands. Besides, who would coordinate such a messy process?

To make a long story short, I like your idea. It doesn't seem realistic because of the first two reasons above. What do you think about waging a media campaign to steer new drivers away from dishonest employers? That's where my mind is right now. I'm open to adjusting my approach, but I refuse to do nothing at all. Some are born to fight and others are born to run. I'm tired of running.
