Honestly, Mr. Landstar can do no wrong agent was just getting a bit under my skin. They are no better than any other broker out here. When you call they ask you what you want for the load.He acts like they just take their 10% and thats it. Just was getting annoyed that's all.

Understandable lot of drivers dont understand that under cut rates start with brokers trying get and keep freight but it is up to us drivers to refuse these low rates and put the low ballers out of business. I never had any problems with any landstar agents but when I call it the rates are not there I just tell them I cant do it. If there is too big of a difference between my rate and theirs I dont waste my time trying to negotiate. If I go under it will be from sitting at home not from wearing my equipment out hauling cheap freight. You cant let these brokers get under you skin they need us more than we need them. Get you some business cards made and every customer you go to talk to them and leave you card. I been doing this and have had many calls anything from direct freight to wanting to know if we was a broker also. But with a little under a year as a independent O/O I dont feel I have the experence to take on direct to many unanswered guestions what about freight coming back what if I want/need to take a couple weeks off what kind of contract do I do with the customer and so on once I feel that I am able to answer most of these questions I will be ready to turn loose the load boards and do away with using a lot of brokers. Just keep you head up

he says he has a daycab with end dump. he should have his operating authority already. even the pick up trucks need dot registrations. but he's not a company. just a trucker. i don't think y ou can get any truck licensed without authority. meaning he should already have his mc and dot.

but as for sticking with your end dump hoping things will turn around. either find some other freight and get out of the business all together. but don't even CONSIDER staying with construction. cuz that profession as we once knew it IS GONE. your just one little trucker competeing with any companies that are still alive. here in utah. it's a whole new landscape with companies. what companies that once were are GONE. and the companies that are here now. i never seen before. and i drove end dumps for 9 years.

in albuquerque. i talked with a end dump. he's hauling scrap metal now. locally.

but like i said. you should already have authority. why are you wondering about what you've applied for. and i noticed y ou said nothing about having a state tax number.

Move out of California and come get yourself a 48' flatbed and make some money. Plenty of year-round work and you can even move to Texas and stay out of the rust belt and not worry about tarping in -30* temps........

I would steer clean of van work as the rates don't seem to justify the costs of owning your own trailer and maintance. Tho Big Bad Bill has managed to do well with his guys on van trailers, so maybe i am wrong?? I just got tired of being a door slammer and getting $1.50 mile

as for leasing on. LS told me 1 year 100k miles. i need 3 more months.

another one i'm looking at wants 150k miles. to which i just about have.

you could go haul your own freight. but the shippers and receivers usually take a couple of months before paying there bills. so keep that in mnd when your waiting for the cash flow to start rolling.

If Im not mistaken you was having a hard time a few weeks back and was asking what direction to go, so how would you know where the work is in flatbedding ? There's plenty of work out here in the west coast but YOU have to look for it, it ain't coming to you, and Im not refering to cheap haul's either.
