husband/wife team thinking of starting out

The only horror stories you usually see are the lots lizards knocking on cabs walking around looking for some action for cash.

Most drivers would probably beat someone to death, before they would let someone harm a woman in a truck stop, or at least that how it used to be. Someone is always awake, during the day or night, in most of these places.

A man walking in a parking lot, OTOH; well that's why we carry guns, knifes, chains and winch bars, and hammers to name a few things!

Trucking is NOT a safe industry to be working in, if you worry about being attacked, either verbally or physically.

Your doing the right thing by starting to ask questions and do your homework. This is a different industry. My husband and I have been teaming for 2 years now and we love it. We started with Watkins Shepard in Jan.2010. Great starter company, smaller and fantastic 10 day orientation, then you get a truck. There is no trainer or separation from your partner. If you two are ready to go, thus us a great alternative. If not, USXpress has been a great company to work for as well. We have made some changes over the last year about what we haul and it has made us better drivers. Would love to answer any questions you may have about getting started, and no question is a dumb question...we both remember what it was like. What part of Tn are you located?

 

I will say in 04' my wife and I teamed and it was great we went to SNi because they would train her for free. We loved it and Didn't need to be home that often,so while on the road we would take time off aand rent a car and do as we pleased. We did drive 1000 miles or more a day and it was easy to do 6-7k miles per week. We made great money and had a good time. As far as safety we always stopped at night usually between 2-4 am and would cat nap together. I always drove at night so when the wife drove during the day it would be safer for her but if she didnt feel safe she'd just get me to go in with her. We'd still be teaming today if we hadn't had our little girl. After the first year we made over 100k a year up until 08' but that was when freight was Crazy and miles were plentiful. Good Luck
