Hello everyone! First off let me start by saying Thank you to everyone that post on these threads....It has been very informative. I have been researching for months. I actually have been thinking about trucking for years...but recently lost my job due to them shuting down.
I will be starting class in Richfield the 16th of this month. I was wondering if anyone else is starting on that date.
Once again thanks to all of you for all the information on Millis!
Starting soon with Millis...

At least there's been no snow yet in that area of WI.
And none in the forecast...you might get lucky for at least part of your training!
Best of luck to you...

Best of luck to you bro. I'm a wannabe trucker, laid off electrician. I've been researching all of the company sponsered cdl training programs out there and millis seems to be the best in my opinion. With all of the positive feedback from employees on this forum it seems to reaffirm that. Was just wondering if anyone had heard of millis helping out with the five hundred down part. I've been laid off for some time now and to broke to pay it. I'm 42 with three teenage kids at home, and unemployment check just doesnt leave enough for me to take that much away from my family. I live in upstate ny about 45 min. north of millis's weedsport terminal. I've already gotten my permit and itching to get started. It seems i'm sitting here spinning my wheels no pun intended. I sent millis an email on fri night about maybe working with me on the downpayment part but no answer yet. My sister lives just outside of dayton so I have a free place to stay. was hoping maybe somebody had heard of them helping with this kind of situation in maybe taking some out of every check after im with a trainer? I'm eventually coming to millis even if I've gotta wait to go back to electrical work first and pay it off then. So I look forward to meeting alot of you guys then whenever that might be.

Isn't there any gov't assistance/grand you can get?
If Millis won't accept that, maybe you can look at a different school.
There is a CDL school in the midwest that takes grants from the gov't so I know programs are out there...
Millis (MTI) is a decent school. Not sure how much luck you will have getting them to help you with the $500 but you need more than that.
You need "personal" money...Don't go empty handed!
Be prepared to at least give Millis 1yr or you will owe a good portion back to them.
The school is decent but the tuition program can be a bit confusing:
IIRC, the school costs $5k....You pay back $2500 via payroll deduction and the other $2500 is 'forgiven' as long as you stay ONE YEAR or more.
You leave BEFORE one year, you own the entire $5k to them.
..at least thats the way I recall it to be....
Many guys don't get that, leave before 1 full year and end up WORSE off financially than they started out... -
Yea you should see if you can qualify for a WIA grant.
Hanadarko Thanks this. -
THATS IT!

I couldn't think of that...I would bet Millis would accept that... -
500.00 down and 2000.00 taken out 20.00 a week till paid off. Plus if u need a hotel you will have that amount deducted at 10.00 a week and the other $2500 is forgiven as long as you stay one year from hire date.Hanadarko Thanks this.

Does anyone know how much the hotel room cost for the 3 weeks you are staying there?

Thankyou everone. the wia grant isnt going to work for me because you can only get it if your not skilled at anything. I am. I went through a five year apprenticeship for electrical work and im a journeyman. work is terribly slow as i'm sure your all aware. i have the money set aside for living expenses while in training. just not enough for living expenses the gas money there and the five hundred. thankyou for all the responses though. prob just have to wait and go back to work. I had spoke to a recruiter at millis about paying them the money while im working and then scheduling into a class the next time im laid off. just been sitting here for two months just barely getting by and I want to go ahead and make the jump to a trucking career. I definately will stay with millis for the year if not longer. Im not a "the grass is greener over there" kinda guy. there seems to be a few long term millis guys in this forum that seem to be very happy with them.

Mine was just over 900.00 in the ohio school. But that was a room to myself. If you share a room it's half that.
deanobigguy Thanks this.
