Wow that last post of mine looks like have no education, pretty much I don't like their system from where I came from,but Celadon is NOT Glen Moore,I accept the fact they are gone,whomever you want to blame, can't bring them back. This company is very detailed in the control of the driver,I understand they want to make a profit,and that limits the drivers independents,the feel I get from Celadon is a lack of trust of their drivers,they are a mega fleet and mega fleets become that because of strict control.
I know some GM drivers who are doing great miles and others like me who anit doing crap,right now I have been in a motel room for 4 days now,their brand new prostare broke down,yea their is nothing they can do about it so not blaming them on this,but in 3the weeks been here 1800 miles has been my biggest week.

 

A good company to you is one that penny-pinches profits off the backs of naive drivers who sacrifice their time for less than minimum wage? Interesting! I guess that is why you work for a company like Celadon. That is why companies like Celadon, Swift, Knight, Western Express, etc. exist and continue to rake in money while drivers like you accept mediocrity. As a driver, a good company to me is...one that takes care of it's drivers and pays them for their time, hard work...and respects them as people. Celadon is a "good deal" for its stockholders and not the company drivers. It could be paralleled to a sweatshop for "truck drivers" (steering wheel holders). Celadon is like a "Made in China" label.

 

I agree with you mad,GM got crap because we got paid for our time,from the detention pay to layover and holidays,where as Celadon pays for detention after 44 hours if the customer pays,so they say,I have to be on layover 48and hours before I get $50the for 3the days. Never the less,will be gone soon.

 

Very true! Sometimes, I sat but I got paid something for it. I never had to even ask about getting detention after two hours...or layover when they didn't have a load until the next day. It was all automatic. Those Celadon policies are red flags if I ever saw it. They wouldn't have those policies if drivers weren't sitting often. It's just another way to screw drivers! In terms of the office workers, 48 hours is their whole work week (plus 8 hours overtime) yet they would ##### if they were not paid for 15 minutes of their time!

It was almost comical listening to Celadon say "We made $560 million" but they left out the part about pinching large sums of money from drivers pay. If you multiple 3000 drivers (or however many they have) times all of hours and days they screw drivers out of detention and layover, it comes to millions of dollars!

I have been doing some investigating into the selling of GM and so far I have found this out, GM was sold because YRC was at the deadline of their reconstructive Bankruptcy and all they needed was $10.3 Million Dollars to have enough to pay their UNION PENSIONS up to date. Yake a wild guess how much Celadon paid for GM! Thats right $10.3 Million Dollars, coincidence or not? You do the math. GM was sold to bail out the #### money hungry Unions.

 

Or maybe to cover up faulty management.

 

That isn't exactly correct...Glen Moore lost $10.3M and the sale was for ???...here's the info from Transport Topics (ttnews):

'YRC Worldwide said late Thursday it has sold "a significant portion" of the assets of its truckload unit YRC Glen Moore to truckload carrier Celadon Group.

YRC Glen Moore unit lost $10.3 million through the first three quarters of 2011, with a 113.4 operating ratio. Sales totaled $76.7 million.

YRC did not release the terms or any details of the transaction.

"Less-than-truckload shipping is what we do best," said James Welch, YRC Worldwide's CEO. "Our efforts are precisely focused on regaining the North American market leader position in that segment."

"This is an exciting opportunity for Celadon," said Paul Will, Celadon's president and chief operations officer. "Glen Moore is recognized as an award-winning truckload service provider with leading-edge technologies."'

Where did you get that figure?

 

Glen Moore was going down the crapper and I was looking to leave before the Celason buy out. I was $5,560 from the year before. I did my time with Celadon, I gave them a chance and they sucked. I had 7 DM since the take over. Last week I took the truck up to Greensboro and caught a plane from there to the new job's orientation. My orientation pay with the new company is more than I made in a week with Celadon. They kept asking me to stay, give it a couple weeks. The hell with that crap. When I came to Glen Moore in 08 it was because Jevic went under and I have a family to support. I took that major pay cut and figured to stay until the economy turned around and the good jobs would start hiring again. Celadon was a joke. The insurance was a joke, everything was a joke. I figure any Glen Moore driver that stays won't be there for long. You can't feed your family that big new fancy truck!

 

Did you go to New Century by any chance? I live in SC and looking at New Century, but not sure if they hire from here. Thanks
