...yet. If you think this is the last version of a cell phone ban that will be implemented, you're nuts. There is already talk of possible outright bans, as well as extending the ban to ALL vehicles instead of just CMV's.
I refuse to wear one of those silly headsets. I've had them before (pre-bluetooth) and couldn't hear near as well as by just using the earpiece on the phone. I'm not going to spend the kind of money they are asking for these bluetooth headphones, which there is no guarantee I'll be happy with, only to be stuck with another battery-powered device which needs to be charged from time to time while not perform up to my expectations.
Not only that, but they look absolutely ridiculous, and I don't talk on the phone often enough to wear one 24/7 "just in case" my phone happens to ring.
I do have the Cobra Bluetooth CB...but it is unclear if that qualifies as a "hands free" device. It looks no different going down the road than a driver talking on the CB...which is allowed...so if a call comes in that I want to answer, I will....however, if I don't know who it is or just don't feel like talking, I still won't answer. My phone sits in a location where I can see the caller ID screen without having to reach for it.

Off topic but... Some people can and do use cell phone's or blue tooth devices responsibly while driving down the road. Not many people in business have the luxury of just being able to ignore a phone. I have heard all the non-sense about banning phone in CMV's and all vehicles. You are right. They could. I still think there are more of us out here opoosed to rediculous rules like that than not and there is too much political pressure that will come to bear that they won;t do this. I could be wrong. It really makes no difference as I will glady use my cell phone to run my business as I see fit regardless what the law is.
So good luck with the audit Plumcrazy. -
If it's anything like CA's audit then it's nothing to sweat too much over.

I am feeling better about this audit already just got a call he is on his way and he has a good since of humor not going to tell what he did but we both laughed about it

In and out in a little over an hour PASSED that was easy a piece of cake

Must be nice. I would not have a business if it was not for having a phone in the truck and talking while going down the road. And to be honest, I have burned thru a battery on my headset in a day so I am keeping my old headset in truck as a back-up.
And talking about the furture is a waste of time. Today, you need to being using an handsfree device in a CMV to be legal.Last edited: Jan 9, 2012
