Another ?
I've done some searching on here, and it really seems like everyone has different ways of trip planning.
I'm curious though how you guys calculate going from say Ohio to California and getting it setup right for you to arrive there on a specific time.
Please assist me on trip planning.
Ex.
Going from Columbus, OH to Sacramento, CA.
Start
Columbus, OH - Tuesday 5:00pm
Destination
Miles: 2,339
Driving Time(at 50mph): 47 hours (46.78 rounded up)
Delivery Time: 1300(1:00pm) Make Up a Delivery Day.
Whats the best way to plan myself leaving from Columbus, OH to Sacramento, CA to be sure I would get there in time?

I always figure 50 mph for 11 hrs and do the math and come up with the days you need
you could do this in 4 days and maybe a little on the 5th if you took it real easy I would say. but lets see what others have to say. -
Speed of truck, legal or creative, routing, etc. Too many unkown variables. Given your case, I would try to get there early Friday to try to get unloaded so I could get reloaded for the weekend.
-
Does your company insist you use their directions or do you do it all including fuel stops.what I do is figure in the big city's and what time I will go thru or use the beltways and my 10 hour breaks and 50mph and when my 70 is up
-
if you got the hours you should be able to do 600 miles a day. if running on your 70 and have small hours coming up you will have to adjust your calculations. generally 11 hours will easily get you 600 miles including inspections and fuel so 44 hours , 4 days, will get you there.
-
OK, you sitting all day and have hours to drive (at 5pm) ? Me, since I hit the bunk at 10 pm, I drive 5 hours, take 10 off, then make the next day a good one. However with Friday coming up, I'm concerned with getting empty AND reloaded before 5 pm on Friday. So that means phone calls to see if I can get reloaded IF I get empty on Friday. Anyway generally speaking, figure on about 600 mi a day.

Unless you have a fast truck that load isn't too realistic. Or your a team operation. I try to cover 500 miles a day I have a 62 mph company truck, that's usually around 8.25 to 8.75 log hours a day, depending on frills stops, and if they coincide where I can stop for the night. There's always issues though, like today I picked up in Redlands, CA going to Tacoma, WA for Tuesday morning its 1166 loaded miles, I got the trailer it was preloaded, but had a flat tire that was 3 hours at the Ontario TA. I got up here to Buttonwillow and now have 983 miles in 2 days, usually easy but I have some good size mountains to cross, so may take longer. But I figure I can get to the Oregon border and finish it off Monday finding a place to park in tacoma is another story.

You wouldn't be able to deliver till monday. So what I would do is drive a couple of hundred on tuesday. Then split the rest up over wed thurs fri and sat. Then I would get in a reset and have a fresh 70 for the next week.

Pacnorwest uses the same math I do, figure 500 a day avg then you will have plenty of time for whatever happens along the way. Obviously you will prob do more than that but if the trip is 2500 miles I will say 5 days but always come up ahead of the game. Its always better to under promise and over deliver as you will always end up looking good.
Hey pacnorwest, im in buttonwillow too (at the TA) im one of the trucks with the big wire coils on , do you happen to drive for Sherman? -
Yea I just got my dot and pm done on my trailer.
