We went over trip planning today. Let me just say... BAH. Its kinda hard. The text on those maps is so cramped you see one number by like, 3 roads and you don't know which road that number goes to! I happened to get to Oakland without going on that illegal road (280 I think it was) because I took 880 up from San Jose. COMPLETELY on accident to! But bah. Crap was annoying. I'm pretty sure it will get easier once you actually start DRIVING and learning these roads though. All in all today was a pretty nice day. Came back and took a nap then went over to bugger one of my neighbors. A lot of people got kicked out from this medical crap, kinda sucks but whatcha gonna do. Can't wait til Monday for more drive time!

While Terry is right about your having to log on line 4 (On Duty, Not Driving) if you are involved with loading, unloading or supervising the process, he is wrong about your being around the truck during the 34.
A 34 can be taken ANYWHERE as long as you are not on duty. (Lines 3 or 4). You can be in the sleeper, walking around, barbequing outside the truck. The only stipulations, as far as FMCSA is concerned, is the truck does not move and you are not on duty.
If Terry were right, there are hundreds of thousands of drivers out there that are violating the law.
I think you misunderstood what he said.

Still waiting for a repower for this meat load here in Carlisle PA. Stevens seems unconcerned about it too. Never seen this attitude about a load that is late, and will be days before I can deliver it.

Oh well regardless I will be going to the Kenworth for my Monday Morning check in.

    so true Emu....
Just finished the repower, to a truck that is done for the day. And he was told to just show up at Burris in the am... Burris is so anal about appointments I wonder how that will work out.
Oh well, I now have a load that delivers on tuesday, 60 miles away... Likely that won't happen either....

From the sounds of everyones problems these days, I'm glad I've been keeping a low profile.
In Tri Cities, TN tonight. Deliver tomorrow to Maxton.
If I say anything else, I'm liable to jinx myself.

NONE!! in the city, depends on which way you are coming from. If coming from the south the last actual truckstop (not rest area, travel plaza, etc.) is Bordentown,NJ. From CT. (N.E.) Milford, CT. From the north (I-87-287) Mahwah, NJ. (NO SHOWERS :biggrin_25518:). from the west on I-78 Clinton, NJ. from I-80 Columbia NJ. From the east....your already s.o.l. cause your on the island :biggrin_2553:

What I listed are all actual truckstops with full amenities except for the Pilot in Mahwah, NJ. they have everything but showers. If you don't need a shower or to trippack something there are other places to park a lot closer the city.

I remember Terry saying the same thing to my class. I think the point he was trying to make is that doing ANY work should legally be on-duty time which would break your 34. It is just an argument for Stevens policy that you cannot take a 34 while under a load, it is not against FMCSR's. I have reset while waiting to deliver and never had compliance or safety say anything about it.
