LTL Truck driving jobs yearly profit!

Easy to make that kind of money. It's called linehaul. Drive at night, drop trailers, swing freight (if needed) pick up more trailers and come home. Lots of guys are making .50 or even .60 cpm and have 400-450 mile nights. Good #### cash.

 

I drive linehaul for ABF(LTL). I touch zero freight all terminal to terminal. And drive days. My run is a laydown. Meaning I hit a hotel everynight. Go home the next day.

Last year I grossed 80k. I'm paid .59cpm and $23.90 hourly.

I tried to break into LTL but never seemed to find any openings. Ran a P&D department for a local wholesaler running cargo box and stake trucks straight tank a long time ago. I sent tons of apps out but was pretty new to Class A at the time, still, not even a "no thank you" came back.

How do people get the union jobs also??

Working a good gig now, good pay, home nights / weekends so its not like I'm currently looking, just curious.

The only union companies I have received a call from is UPS. HOWEVER, that was for a seasonal feeder driver job that WOULD NOT TURN INTO A FULL TIME JOB NOR WOULD IT PROVIDE ANY HIRING PREFERENCE ON ANY FUTURE JOBS... Basically just a stop gap that the unions will more than likely view as scab labor as the positions fill the need for drivers without providing employment for unemployed union drivers nor does it allow the union to expand its membership.

By the way, after a telephone interview for A POSITION AT UPS, WHICH I DID NOT APPLY FOR as I did not have 2 years experience, I was invited to orientation. I know my application gives ALL details about my experience going back 30 years, including my year of tractor trailer experience (At the time) and nearly two decades driving everything with wheels, literally. I found out once in orientation that UPS HR did not even read my resume' and just like 5 out of 7 drivers there, I did not qualify due to lack of experience; fair enough, they have standards. What I was surprised to learn was that the jobs would last less than 90 days and in no way shape or form would that help us to get a full time driving position with UPS. It would not become permanent nor would ANY hiring preference be given on future driving position that may open up. The HR rep went on to state that it was her understanding that "NO SUCH POSITIONS WERE PLANNED ANYTIME SOON ANYWAYS." All seven of us drivers that entered orientation together, left together. The pay was said to be $19.80hr and no type of additional benefits existed.

Are there any UPS drivers that have started in past year or so that care to tell us about your success story or path you traveled to get where you are?

 

My terminal is right next to an ABF terminal. Those guys seem very happy. Day line would RULE. We run rocky sets and I know you guys run triples so you can keep those but yeah give me some day runs!! haha

 

As these guys said, it's possible and you have to put time in. LTL, union and specialized aren't the only local jobs that make that much even though most think so. My dad makes over $100k a year as a company driver doing one stop local runs for a non-union company. He does have 32 years at the same company though.

 

i just happen to fine a job that was union i did not go out looking for it. some of the stuff is cool some is not..
