Yes...I have to agree about the Mercs...We ran a 1972 model 2024 on everyday work up until 1994 and worked it hard. Only for the rust getting hold of the cab...it was mechanically unbreakable.

Yep, Mercedes SK was the gppd thing. But no EPS version, becose TCU is in cab and to many wires run down to tranny, so more chances to damage
-
he is talking about LP or L series
SK was good truck all except this
Mercedes gearbox have lot of troubles with syncros they can last max 8years even with best driver
door lining fall off , if it is construction truck and distribution you need door lining repair every 2weeks
and of course EPS was too complicated to maintain or repair
thats why i more like NG -
it is year 1985
and mercedes just presented their first automated gearbox called EPS based on standard ZF gearboxes with 16speeds
it was not perfect but from it mercedes has developed new better one on their own gearboxes
and latter telligent in few generation
from 1988 it becomes standard for all road going vehicles
it was i think second automated gearbox on market
first was scania cag

I drove one of these a '44, very reliable but like most mercedes the cab was poorly equipped , the bunks were like slabs of concrete

There are some Titan fat truck in Rusia, but of conventional design. Actros cab, with flat floor
-
The Titan 4656 is very popular here for heavy haulage.
The real big stuff is handled by Nicolas Tractomas.
