So I took the truck to a local truck wash recently, that I had gone to twice before in the past without issues.. So the way it works, is you get there, park your truck in front of the gate or door, step out of your truck, go in the office, pay for whatever time you want, go back outside and into your tractor and wait for a kid to press a button for the door to go up so you can go inside.. I had my brother with me and we were talkin, mustve been distracted, but anyways I end up going in too early; the door's not all the way up, and I slightly bend the bottom panel with the tips of my stacks. So then the owner gets my insurance info and license info.. He tells me he will have a guy look at how much it will cost to repair and he'll let me know so I can pay for it.....

Ok so, here's the thing. In retrospect, I feel like I don't owe the guy much or anything at all. First of all, I researched these garage doors a bit and from the looks of this the guy could ask me to replace the entire door. I couldn't find a single price tag on just one panel.. Second of all, most other truck washes have a red and green light to tell you when you can go in.. This guy just had a kid that didn't even bother giving me a little heads up. Why should it be my full responsibility!

Would you pay up? What do you think I should do.

You hit his door, you are responsible for damages. It sucks but we all make mistakes and we have to stand up and take responsibility for our actions. With all due respect, if you feel you require guidance from some pimply faced teenager or a traffic light to tell you whether or not the door is up to enter a wash bay, maybe trucking aint your gig. Unfortunately, it's the owner of the truck that is going to be stuck with the bill.

I think you're on the hook for this. If it were me I'd consider paying for the panel out of my own pocket rather than having the insurance pay for it and see my rates go up. Compare the cost and figure it out.

No I don't require guidance from a kid bro, I was just trying to build my case for the part of me that doesn't want to pay.

I will obv pay out of pocket and keep what happened from the insurance companies notice.

I'm owning up to the damage I made, to the one panel.. But if he tells me I have to replace his entire door I will laugh in his face.

I'd show my picture of the door to a local door maintenance company and get a quote so you know what to expect. Fix the guys door, fix your stacks and kick your bro out of the truck 'cause it was all his fault!!! LOL

Yes, I know that you were trying to build a case for the part of you that doesn't want to pay. It's human nature. I just wanted to point out that grasping at things to build your case on, IE " most other truck washes have a red and green light to tell you when you can go in.. This guy just had a kid that didn't even bother giving me a little heads up" implies that it's not your fault BECAUSE there was no traffic lights and the kid didn't guide you in and you should be able to enter a wash bay safely unaided.

BTW, door panels are old separately and they are easy to change. The whole door doesn't have to be changed.

I am not here to pick a fight or anything so please don't take this the wrong way.. I do not see how you can laugh in his face if the door needs to be replaced ... It's your fault and your responsible for the damages.. So what I am trying to say is "you don't have a leg to stand on" sorry but that is the way it is...

Now with that said... If this is a panel door (like separate panels making up a full door) then those can be replaced.. Now if this is a solid one piece door (like those metal one that can roll up) and he wants to you replace the whole door then your responsible to do this because well your the one that damaged it. Now I think this would be very unreasonable of him if this was the outcome.. I would try to reason with him about having it fixed by a professional rather then having to replace the full door...

Again if this is a panel door then the chances are good that just one panel can be replaced and the cost will be better...

I would laugh in his face (kind of immature) and wouldn't tell him no I am not replacing the full door.. Cause what COULD happen is he can call your insurance company and then have THEM replace the full door.. This is worst for you cause then your premiums will go up and you will end up paying even more money out of your pocket... If your a company driver then I sure hope your company knows you have hit the door..
