So, the long and the short of it: Con-Way is a decent company with the same potential for screws and stars as any other?
Talked to Keturah today, thinking of Joplin the 16th as recent grad with desire.

I gotta call ya on this one, brother. Conway has the absolute BEST insurance out of any company. Period. I've been there for eight months now, have insurance for both my wife and myself. Costs me $28.00 a week ($112.00 a month) and the insurance is with CIGNA. And here's the real clincher... NO DEDUCTABLE! Yep, thats right, Conway pays for whatever deductable you have. And you get to choose your own doctor. Look at ANY other company and you will see that their insurance will cost you anywhere from $90.00 to $150.00 a week! Thats $360.00 to $600.00 a month! Thats almost a weeks' wages just for insurance! Now, I will say that the miles at Conway are pretty poor and as a result, the wages are terrible, you will average about $500.00 to $700.00 a week. Poverty level. I have never been late on a load and I have a perfect safety record and I cannot take care of my family on this kind of money. I am really hoping things will change for the better soon. And yes, I have talked to my FM about getting more miles.Starboyjim and Jarhed1964 Thank this.

What?!? Like cartwheels and ####?!
As for the shifting, gotta be smooth like butter first run out? Or do they accept "first time in this truck, a little crunchy but nothin spine-twitchin"? -
What did you expect, club med? Your there for a week to get additional training that your truck driving school didn't provide.
What your truck driving school most certainly should have taught you, was how to shift a truck.
The agility test is a required deal to hire on. So if you can't get in or out of a trailer, crawl under it, lift the required weight, etc. well your not going to make it in the real world.Starboyjim Thanks this. -
Are you saying that you showed up in Joplin mo, and didn't know you were going to boot camp
Somehow I highly doubt that somebody failed to give you that little nugget of info. -
I don't think you'll have to do cartwheels, or even jumping jacks.
And as far as shifting, as long as you can go up and down through the box, without dumping it on the ground, you'll be ok.
If your fresh out of truck driving school, they know your not going to be perfect.
If your a experience hand, the expectations will be high, and that should be expected.
I wouldn't sweat it, they want to hire you, they are not in the business of paying to bring people in, train them, only to give them ole heave hoe.Foust Thanks this. -
BuffetJ, please tell me what the agility test was when you trained? I'm on my way to Neosho starting orientation next week. I like small towns so that's not a problem for me, but are there any decent places to get a dinner? The hotel has continental breakfast, and Conway provides lunch, isn't that their arrangement? Thanks. Drive safe.

When I went thru orientation with them we were doing our driving test and this woman and her husband were in my class. She was in the truck with me and I don't think she ever shifted before in her life. Those gears were grinding for the whole trip around the city. She passed but I sure in the heck don't see how.

Hey Boomer...Happy New Year Driver!!! You ready to get back out here yet? Its winter, that's the fun time!!!
I am still here, still have all my paint and nobody else's.
Ended up in a new Pro Star. Pretty spacious after the old red racer. Miles have been good. Just keeping my nose clean. I try to see how many days in a row I can go without talking to operations. I like my manager, so I don't mind talking to her, but I am sure it is more appreciated if I don't call for silliness. She returns the favor by keeping me running.
I became a finisher. So far so good. Expect to pick up my next (2nd) student as soon as they can get me routed to JOPMO.
Hope you are well. Stay safe.
RRvmaggs Thanks this. -
Yes I am trying to get on with Schneider. I called Conway and although I am eligible for rehire they wanted me to go thru driving school again. NOT. All Schneider wants is a one week refresher course. Hoping to do that real soon. Glad things are going well with you. Those pro stars sure are good looking.
