Taking the time to do the research etc. I test out this Friday but do not have a home.
The carrier with whom I have made multiple contacts with is Squire/Knight. I have read some solid things about this company and had an interest with them from the get go but could not reach a recruiter...
Will keep you posted both on here AND on my youtube vids.
Has anyone been through Squire/Knight that can share their thoughts?
After Review... I WILL NOT BE GOING WITH SWIFT

Have you considered Roehl? I have their brochure/ orientation schedule in a PDF format if interested.
deviltalk Thanks this. -
Try Werner. I like it so far and all that negative bull is due to other people's attitudes. As long as you.re an optimistic person, everything will be fine. I've been on the training truck five days now and my trainer is very good.

I worked for Knight for 5 months. That was back in 2007. A lot could have changed by now but the #1 problem I had with them was their lack of trailers. I was always PO'd at Knight because they always had me driving around whatever town I was in to find an empty trailer.
They have a terminal in Katy, TX - just west of Houston. They also have a drop yard on the east side. That's 45 minutes on a normal day and during rush hour you can had an hour or two to that. Try getting paid by Knight for the time it takes to go from one end to the other.
I spent over six hours in Atlanta one day looking for a trailer. I eventually got paid for that ($12/hour for driving around Atlanta just ain't worth it) but it took like 2 months for that $$ to come in.
Also, when you're within the territory of one of their terminals, you suddenly become dispatched by that local terminal. It probalby doesn't mean much to you now being new, but that system of falling into the local terminal's dispatch area sucks!
As I said, things may have changed but before committing, I'd check on those issues. Being in Vegas, you may consider giving May Trucking a call. You could run in their 11 western state division living in NV.
There are a ton of other companies too. I just wouldn't settle on Knight. Hopefully they've changed but I'd check it out first.

LOL, you've been on a trainer truck for 5 days and you know everything. LMFAO Can YOU even read your post with a straight face?
stranger, celticwolf, deviltalk and 8 others Thank this. -
Most of these starter companies will be very similar, yes there are a few I would stay away from (and this forum will help) I would look for a few things as a student, a good comprehensive training program (post school), atleast 6-8 weeks OTR training (you need that much time, just to get your bearings, so much to learn) . Your attitude will either make or break you, as you will be training with a human......not a machine and we are all different. I would look at this as your next phase of training, you will get paid for,... unlike some careers. After a year, re-evaluate......maybe you will stay, maybe you will look for another carrier (just lock yourself in for one year, you will benefit as driver.) These guys that jump around, kill their career one jump at a time.
bullhaulerswife and deviltalk Thank this. -
devil, have you looked into Maverick ? appears to be a very solid company. best of luck
