I don't have the Check engine light on. I do, however, have this code stored in my memory.
What are the side effects if the actual valve opens and closes but, this code is still shown?
Thanx.

With the code active the EGR valve is disabled. Not an issue but the EGR valve might be disabled in the open position.
-
If it is disabled automatically, then, why does
The egr stepper, it think that's what it's called, motor is making noise - when the key is on and motor is off. How would you explain the egr valve being cycled or atleast closes at the start of the motor?
Thanx. -
You said you do not have a check engine light on. With the code active, the EGR system is disabled. If the code is not active, the EGR should be working.

I've shorted the plug, to see if the same code only with the 3 at the end will come up. Well, it did. But, the code 4 was still acrid as well. As soon as I've taken the jumper out, restarted the rig, only code 4
Stayed on. Bad sensor? -
Yes, all you did there was test the wiring to the ECM. Wiring is good, need to replace the position sensor. I posted the parts in a previous post. If you give me your ESN I can list the exact parts.

I did, previous post. : Cummins:79177436

4956084 is the kit for the position sensor. Comes w/ guide pin and all.

How much?
So, to get this right; if the sensor overtravels either direction, it will not throw the code that it did correct?
So, if the code is shown, the only way to fix it is to replace the sensor? Correct? -
The code you have is for an electrical issue. The ECM has no idea where the valve is at any time. Since you said that you took the valve apart and "guts" fell out, there is no telling whats going to happen once the ECM does see the valve position. but yes, the only way to fix that code is to replace the position sensor. You would probably be better off replacing the whole valve. That's just my $.02
