Hello. I have been out of a truck and not driven OTR or local since April 2009. I had a nice office job great hours and great pay that I resently got layed off from. I am collecting unemployment, but I am researching going back out on the road. I am having problems finding a company or any company that will take my experience. I have 11 years OTR. No tickets or accidents. And every company I have spoken to tells me they require 12 months OTR in the last 36 months which I dont have. Or I am being told I need 6 months OTR in the last 12 months. Where do I start to find a decent company that will accept my experience I have and offer me a job. Or am I gonna be stuck going to work for a company that trains students or what? Even with some of them I have looked at, they want you to be fresh out of school or have 6 months "recent" experience. Any suggestions will be extremely helpful. I have been looking since the first week in December and havent came up with any reputable companies as of yet. I figured I could atlease ask. I cant be the only "ex" driver that is coming back into the business with this issue. Thanks, in advance. :biggrin_25514:

No, you are not the only unemployed driver to go thru this nonsense. Some will say it is an "insurance thing" to have to go back to a school for a refresher course of at least 40 hours.

Some will say it is a company ting to go thru this. But whatever the reasons are, try and find a quick refresher course at a school near you. The price should not be as high as a regular training course.

Some other "tips" would be to check Craig's List, Monster, Career Builder, LogisticsJobsite, etc,etc..all the above mentioned are ".com" at the end.

It is tought finding work, and your experience should not be a problem, it is a game we must all play in order to win.

    Good luck, keep us informed.

Look for the smaller carriers who can actually make decisions, not the big guys who follow mandates. You're in a great area, so go knock on some doors. Generally, the companies that have these rules are the companies someone with a decade of OTR doesn't want to work for.
