I stopped at a parts store near Baltimore once. A guy stopped and wanted to get on top of my trailer to look at a custom pickup that I was delivering to a dealer in Maryland. At the time I had a load of custom trucks from Choo Choo Customs. He asked for the name of the dealer and called him. I don't know if he actually bought the truck, but it is the only time that I can recall that someone got on top of my trailer to check out a vehicle. I have had other drivers to hail me on the CB about a few vehicles that I was hauling and ask questions.

I had an exhaust brake on my Dodge and it would stop it good too, but that was only 2 cars in an enclosed trailer, when I see a 4 car with 2 or 3 heavy vehicles on it plus a smaller one, there's no way it's gonna get stopped. Someday somebody is gonna plow into a school bus by not getting stopped and it's gonna get ugly for the dually guys.

You can cover the gross weight with a 33-36k plate. However that 4th car on a dually EXCEEDS the mfg weight for either the drive axle &/or the tire rating. If DOT pops open the door or checks the tires while inspecting your day is over.
I stopped with three units that paid well & quit there. DOT did check that rating when I had three small Saturns on. No worries on that one.
You are wasting your time, stick to ltl or find oil field work in PA. Too many idiots will haul cars for nothing & the majority of newer brokers are rewriting the book on ethically challenged.
I am telling you this because there is definitely better money to be made other than wasting time on cars currently.Last edited: Jan 10, 2012

I haven't pulled a dually with a wedge, but I did have some doubts about being able to axle the weight on the dually. My friend has a 3 axle trailer, but if he puts flippers on both ends to accommodate the fourth car then he will need to put some of that weight over the top of the dually. Oh well, that is something that he will need to concern himself about. I don't know that I would want to pull cars with a dually, but many do. My friend is doing very well with his.

Exactly, everyone who needs work and has a dually says "I'm gonna get me a car trailer and make the big $$$$$$$." and as far as the brokers, they are either good, horrible or can't speak Engrish. (Yeah, I spelled it how it sounds when they say it.)

car haulers don't have any more weight then hotshots, its all about making sure you have good brakes on the truck AND trailer, if your brakes are set right you can stop any load.
I have grossed 36k and had no trouble stopping on short notice. -
What is the best 9 car hauler trailer to get for ease of loading and unloading and least cost of maintenance?
-
A free one.

we used to load some ford cab and chassis outta buffalo railhead, and put them across the top of a high rail cottrel, and sometimes, one down in the belly.
I think they had disc brakes on them, something made them skinnier than a regular C/C or dually, just cant remember what the heck it was?
mind you, they were kinda rare. -
I believe that Cottrell and Miller both make a 9 car quick loader. The designs are very similar. Basically, the quick loaders don't have the high rails. It makes it easier to get in and out of the cars and much easier to haul wider vehicles such as pick up trucks.
