Technically MGFG is correct, but I have heard of instances with other companies that will put stuff on your DAC. Like if you fail a pre-employment drug screen. I don't think they can legally do that, but the way DAC is set up is if the company has your personal info they can put anything on there they want. But you can always fight it as you were never technically employed. I doubt Stevens will put anything on there, and it is free to obtain the report. Just takes awhile to get it in the mail.
What ever you do don't go the England. I started @ USA Truck and they were a good outfit but no longer do in house training to get your CDL. If you are not a fat body, like myselfCheck out Prime. I would try to go to a company that pulls reefers (stay busy year round) and has good equipment. Good luck and happy trails!!

Thanks for the well wishes, 60MPH. We were told in class that once we signed the DAC form, which we did very early in the day, the company could start putting information there based on your SSN. Nobody asked how they make that decision, so I don't know. Hopefully, the nurse practitioner told me the truth--it's just a Stevens policy and not regulatory.
CRE was never on my list and I gave Prime serious consideration; in fact, choosing between them and Stevens was a very difficult, time-consuming process. They might go back on the list. Right now, I'm trying to relax a bit between Plan A and Plan B.Last edited: Jan 13, 2012

Any my argument would be that if you're not paid for orientation you're not an employee therefore I doubt they can "legally" put anything on your DAC. Many will and get away with it...but I doubt it's above board.

The chances of Stevens putting that on DAC are nil. It costs them money to post it and they would only do it if they were being vengeful such as for a DUI when in their truck.
I've known several candidates that were sent home for med reasons. Just like Denali, they didn't try and hide anything. It just was.
Stevens sent them home and never posted anything anywhere.
If you try and screw with them, they'll get mean, but this isn't the case here.
Denali, look at Prime or Schneider.DenaliDad Thanks this. -
I definitely will, Emul. One of the last things I did before retirement was hire a new investigator who used to drive OTR for Schneider. He spoke highly and gave me his personal contact; I called and learned they don't hire in Michigan right now. Bummer. Prime was high on the list until I made my final decision, so I'll get back in touch with them now that I have your recommendation.
I want to thank all the Stevens readers who have given me good wishes. You have no idea how much it means to me. I was pretty bummed out for a couple of days, as you can imagine, what with being sent home from my #1 choice. But it is what it is and life does go on. Like my signature block says, I am grateful for my life, no matter what it throws at me.
Thank you, one and all. -
Denali, one more thing to check out.
Most states have federal money for 'Displaced Workers Act', where they will pay your entire cost of getting your CDL from a local school at no cost to you.
Check with your state unemployment office.
Doing it that way will open a lot more doors for you.
Also, being a veteran, you may be eligible for payment.DenaliDad Thanks this. -
DD,
Yes Dac can used on you.
Also hippa, on medical problems.
I suggest leaving your dirty laundry at home, out of sight.

Denali, with as many posts you have made on this thread I would think the Stevens drivers would make you a honorary lifetime member, even if the truck you end up driving may be orange, purple or green. I agree with Emul on looking into a local college/school for CDL training.
DenaliDad Thanks this. -
I've said this before and for any new readers, I will say it again: Stevens is a class act. My only problem was of my own making. I put my big boy pants on that morning and divulged very, very old medical information that I should not have; I paid the price and will not say negative things about the company because of that.
