Greetings all!
I'm slated to start RDTC on Jan 30, and am finding Marshfield, WI quite a difficult place to get to. I'm starting this thread in hopes that others who have been there can help us newbies find our way around. I'm coming from Buffalo, NY and really need to leave the good vehicle at home for the Mrs. to use. It seems the Greydog is a pretty good solution but it can only get me as far as Stevens Point or Mosinee (about 30-35 miles away). A 30 mile cab ride seems to be as much as the Greydog from Buffalo and a rental car would run about $800+ for the 3 weeks so that's not an option. Is anyone out there more familiar with getting from these places to Marshfield?
Also, If I don't drive there, is the training center within walking distance of any stores or restaurants? Does Roehl offer a courtesy car at all for the students to use? Any insight would be helpful to all of us newbies.
How to get there from here....

Take the Amtrack train, you can get it in Depew (spelling???) and then take it all the way to Colby which is 13 miles north of Marshfield. You should be able to get Radio Cab in Marshfield to pick you up from there. The train is a lot less money too...

Just curious why RDTC, why not school locally? BTTI is a pretty good school from all that I have seen. Just was wondering. RDTC does a good job, but you now have to get your CDL in two weeks rather than three. The last 8 days is orientation... If you go there with your CDL I think they pay for your room for orientation. Thats all...

The terminal is not in walking distance of anything. Unless you want a long walk. Hopefully you can buddy up with someone who drove there.

It's 45 mins from anything that actually qualifies as civilization LOL

Thanks Paoldschool! The train doesn't route through Colby, I think it was actually a bus connection, but the closest they go is Abbotsford which is right next to Colby. But the bus times no longer match up to the train times. They must have dropped a route. I called Radio cab and they said they don't go to Abbotsford but they do go to Tomah on Mon, Wed, Fri and Sundays for $17. I checked Amtrak and nothing matched up timewise, they were always missing the bus connection (or vice versa), but I found a round trip Buffalo, NY to Tomah, WI for $270 which gets to Tomah at 2:30 Sunday which times it really good. So it looks like $304 round trip to Marshfield door to door plus a couple of tips for the cabbie!

Also, PA, I did go down to NTTI and spoke with them, but the economics didn't fit. They wanted to run me through an 8 week $8000 program in order to get Fed Grant $ and student loans. I'm sure they're a fine outfit but it just didn't make sense.

Okay, a little clarification for anyone interested...The Hotel is actually 4 miles from the training center. There are plenty of stores and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel including a "festival" supermarket, Taco Bell, Perkins, McDonalds, and others. Google Earth is a wonderful thing....

JBear I wish you lots of luck... I live just south of Bradford PA, about 2 hours from Buffalo, and I just left Roehl after almost 5 years. I am driving locally now for an auto parts store, and driving school bus, more money and more hometime, you can't beat it!!!
JBear0603 Thanks this.
