I am still a A&P mechanic. I'm just doing the trucking thing because I've always wanted to, and because Aviation isn't doing so well these days so I want to have a backup skill if I ever get fired from a job. Plus, I needed my CDL to drive the fuel trucks at the airport.

Before trucking i had my own clinic as naturopathic physician in Germany. I also lectured, contributed to medical TV-documentaries and wrote articles for medical magazines.
What happened?
.... I simply got burnt out by the politics / medical wars inside the industry.TamedCynic Thanks this. -
Restaurant Manager in my 20's, twice-degreed wanting to join Law Enforcement Administration but lost my left foot in an unfortunate accident in '94.
Trucking has been pretty good to me since then. Trucking has put food on my family's table and has gotten me though some pretty hard times. I'm doubt I will ever do anything else in this lifetime.
I once knew a driver who earned a Master's at Julliard and performed with the NY Symphony for a while. It would surprise most people just how educated Truckers really are, and how diverse their background can be.gb2nyc, Jarhed1964 and TamedCynic Thank this. -

Like Hootie I to was an A&P mechanic for five years. The day I turned 24 I signed up for CDL school. Ten years later I have never looked back. Still tinker with planes on the side, but I belong in the truck!

I started off in the offshore oil industry in the Gulf. Did some construction after I had to leave that job for some health issues. Did a stint in the Army as a medic and earned my EMT - Intermediate certification but never pursued it in civilian life. Worked in the warehouse setting as a forklift operator for a bit before going into trucking.
