I own my truck. I used to be company and I have leased. All are good options here and all have pros/cons. Spend some time and find what fits you best.
A little side note to you. Stay away from the negativity, well atleaste for you first year and then dive in. -
Yeah that's my plan staying out of the negative part. I just want to drive and be a safe driver.... Don't care if I have to repower a load 10 times, I will never say no to any dispatch miles unless is a safety issue.... I just want to make a good living as a driver, just think positive so I van provide food and shelter for my family, and also love to drive
-
I used to be that way to the T! Now I say no to ddispatch sometimes, just because I haven't said it in a while....... its like pinching myself to see if I'm still human.
-
Well my friend you still are.... But I can see that you are a hard working man. I am the same way, right now I work in a Hotel 7 nights a week from 10pm till 6am, then I take my son to school while the wife goes to work, don't go to sleep till 9:30 am and then I wake up around 2pm. So for me working so many hours is not a problem... Like to do it.... Like to work and not complain. I always say yes whenever they need me. That's the way that I am....

Does anyone know the current pay scale for leasing through Stevens Transport? I know currently, or last I checked, company drivers were started at $0.26 cents per mile. Also, what other expenses are there with leasing through the company?

well, lets say the lack of communication in dallas is back to normal today.
Was dispatched after 5pm yesterday, onto a load that was supposed to deliver yesterday, in groveport OH.
I called and got no help, as I only have 6.75 hours today, and there is no way I can go and pick the load up, 60 miles away, and then drive 343 miles to deliver. I explain that, and am told that amy says they will take the load when I get there. I say that will be saturday due to hours of service... fine was the answer. I then sent a qc message explaining the problem, and a running late message.
Got up this morning, bs with another driver who is also picking up at nabisco, but does not have a scheduled pick up time yet. Send another qc message this morning stating I can not make the delivery today, it will be saturday due to hours. No response.
So I start driving, and 30 miles away from morris, my phone rings, it is amy wanting to know why I had not picked the load up yesterday, it is a hot load, blah blah blah....
I told her I am on my way, and as I have stated I will not be able to deliver until saturday due to my hours... blah blah blah, you are off the load, it is a hot load and needs to be there today...
sorry but I will not violate hours of service to cover your dispatch mistake.
I was going to drive back to morris to be comfortable, but it started sleeting and the interstate was becoming slick, and with an empty, I just don't like to drive on slick conditions...
So here I am at the Lemont I-55 truck plaza, got me a short walk to the food and bathroom, and 1/2 inch of snow/ice on the truck already. And no load.
all because a dispatcher slams a load onto me just before going home with out looking at my available hours. And then gets upset when I tell her I won't violate federal law to cover her mistake. -
Be careful with that attitude. One must know their own physical limitations, and the laws limitations. They do not always come together.
I am careful on what I say no to, but I will not violate hours of service for any load. I communicate that I can not do the load as soon as I know, but I am always willing to pick it up.
But today that was not good enough for the dispatcher. -
Sleep is more important than running the load. Just be sure and pick it up before the DLD, then communicate if you can not make on time delivery. Then you have done your job.
