I've found it at a truckstop before. The Abbyland truckstop outside Abbotsford, WI is as peaceful as it gets. Huge parking lot with maybe 10 trucks parked there usually. They have a couple hot waitresses as well which is even another plus.

I wonder what gives anyone the idea that "nosed-in" parking is wrong? It may be different than how everyone else is doing it at the time, but there are probably more than a dozen reasons why it might be the right thing to do at the time. Heck, Texan007 listed 7 good reasons to in short order. Oh....and being seen as unprofessional by Truck609 isn't a reason not to.

Don't particularly care where you look for peace and quiet, Truck609. If I'm nosed into the back corner with a field on my left and a field in front of me, I am away from the stench of urine inundated pavement, away from the reefers and high idlers, away from the staring eyes of nosy people and usually have a better wireless signal. And I don't really care whether you think I'm professional or not.

If I was to add up every excuse I have seen to call a driver "unprofessional," there would not be a single, solitary REAL professional driver in existence.

Let's see how many I can remember:
You pull up more than three times on a back.
You don't pull up enough times and park a little crooked.
You don't have your tractor lined up perfectly with your trailer when in a dock.
You stop in front of the fuel island to pee, get a pop and do your log book.
You don't catch your log book up before rolling onto the highway.
You rest your left foot on the lower dash as you drive.
    You stop to pee.
You don't stop to pee and use a bottle instead.
You have a sissy swivel on your steering wheel.
You refuse to get a sissy swivel and remove it whenever you have to drive a truck with one installed.
    You use GPS.
    You don't use GPS.

.....do I really need to continue?

this thread is laughable. i nose in at times in order to be considerate of other drivers. when i nose in between 2 trucks backed in they wont have to hear my truck run. or now that i have an apu, they wont have to listen to it either.

absolutely amazing that some of you say its unprofessional, some of the guys nosing have backed up more miles than you jokers have driven forward.

injun, you are wise well beyond your 5 years of driving.

Usually because I'm dog-tired, in which case I think it's actually more professional, because I realize my fatigue increases the chance of an accident, and I'm doing everyone else a favor by not even trying it.

(I do take the exit into account, though; if it's an easy, straight-out backup I'm more likely to pull in nose first.)

But sometimes I will do it to avoid noise and exhaust fumes. I did it recently in Gary, IN in a hella crowded TA, because it was a corner spot, and by nosing in I made sure the closest idling engine was over 50 feet away.

There are plenty of things about other drivers that bug me (tailgating), but nosing into a spot isn't one of them :biggrin_25512:

On another note, I was waiting for a fuel code earlier and decided to get a sandwich. So I did. And ate it. And went back it to spend some quality time in the men's room. Came back out. And sat there and watched the CRST truck that had been trying to back into a spot the entire time continue failing at it.

So you got a truck with a 53' trailer trying to back in, with a guy that had to be a trainer trying to guide him, and there are 4 open spots that he's trying to hit. That's right. This guy took 40 minutes to back into a hole four trucks wide.

And then, as soon as he got it into the spot (crooked), they pulled right back out and left. Didn't even get a sandwich. :dontknow:

I'd say that was a wise trainer letting his/her student practice backing where he/she wouldn't hit anything.

Not everyone is as good when they first start driving as I was :biggrin_255:

A Pilot parking lot, and a small one at that, is not really the place to practice that. And yes, they had trucks blocked from getting out that way that had to back out to escape. Besides which, a wise trainer would have had the kid backed in and lined up in 10 minutes, max. If I can show someone how to do it, someone who actually gets paid to show people how to do it should at least be able to out teach me.

I did it once.had gotten fuel and was going to leave and saw an open spot in a packed lot, shot straight for it worried that in wasting time to turn around and manuever where I could back in I might lose it to another truck. Come morning when I had to back out in the blind ,didnt like that at all, last time I done that.
