Would anyone running one of these in a class 8 post your opinion? Power, dependability and fuel milage? Haven't seen any posts on it yet.
Thanks

Pretty new stuff...
My salesman at the Pete store has told me about some pretty good fuel economy numbers for the new engines... there have been several fleets running them for two years now and getting anywhere from 6+ up to more than 8 mpg... depending on their operations of course.
they have only been installing them for a few months so reliability is unknown but they seem to hold up well in the DAF trucks in Europe.Saddle Tramp and oicu812 Thank this. -
Thanks for the quick reply Krooser. The fuel milage sounds good, but I have been out of the business for quite a while (18 years). Back then I never seemed to get more than an honest 5 to 51/2. Some things have changed, but from a short time reading the boards, much seems the same.

The company I used to work for tested 3 of those Paccar motors a few years back for Peterbilt in Winnipeg. Amazingly ######, was all I heard. Always breaking down. Not enough power. I never asked for any more info back then from the guys that were testing them, so that's I know. Plus, that was 2 or so years ago. Maybe 3. They could be better by now.
Scania man Thanks this. -
Absoloute rubbish is the short answer! I bought 2 brand new dafs in 2003, engine no1 wore out at 230,000kms engine no2 at 540,000 kms, yes that's kilometres not even miles, I don't mean they blew up I mean they were completely worn out, they both had to be rebuilt, the newer mx is even worse, I've only seen one to make a million km's they usually only last 600,000km's that's around 370,000 miles but it's often much lower, they have other major issues too, egr valves, burning copious amounts of oil, warping heads, dropping valves. If you have any sense stay away from these engines, they will break you like they did me and Alot of guys I know, stay with an engine you know but these are a really bad engine

My opinion......buy the truck with a Cummins.
That is all
BTW, way to revive a old thread LOLDrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
Cummins seem like a really good engine, why take a chance on a pacaar? Besides now you know how bad pacaars engines are pass the word on , don't let your fellow truckers be duped into buying these piles of junk -
Ahh I've just noticed the dates on this thread lol,

I've been told good things recently. Maybe they improved them since 2-3 years ago??...
