Stupid question but im sure the pump is going out but did you add the correct fluid to it? I had a 99 before the 05 and im pretty sure it took transmission fluid as well, just a thought. Clearly stated on the 05 reservoir for atf.

I've had all sorts of different suggestions on what fluid to use in my power steering...everything from SAE 30 to ATF. When I changed out two hoses last fall I switched to power steering fluid... seems to work well.
I would also look for slop between the steering output shaft and the pitman arm... they all get loose over time. Not saying this is our problem but you should look at it for safety's sake.Last edited: Jan 28, 2012

The re call was a joke "none made it back to be fixed"due to not turning right not left c mon that is clever

Yep, it is, I rekon you did good!

Are you sure the fluid is topped off? Had a really bad leak in the 06 387 I used to drive. Every time it dipped below the cover, i'd have to bump the idle or stand up to turn the wheel to get it going.
Doing that for a while will get your pitman arm pretty #### loose, and might shift your leaf springs in the shackle. -
ive been putting motor oil in mine that what they said put in it at peterbilt im guessin my pump may be bad all the steering is in good condition

You could put a guage on it and deadhead the pump at idle to confirm low pressure output, but it just adds to the cost of the repair.
