I just got back from hometime. A very nice 4 days home. I have been in my own truck for a little over 7 weeks. The first week I started in the middle, the 2nd week was Christmas, the 3rd week was New Years. So I just got my first 4 weeks solid on the road. Take home was 3472.79 for a weekly average of 765.33. I am very happy. This is just a glimpse of what you can expect, I know it will vary person to person, week to week. I just wanted to put this info out here one time because it was one of my big questions when I first started. I expected, wanted, needed, 500 a week as a newbie.
Millis has been everything that I could have hoped for and more. Millis is the best not the rest! I am enjoying every minute of this and the more my skills progress the happier I become. I would say the only downside is that I wish I was a better driver. Which I am working on daily. Be safe and have fun!
ricrey99, Dipschitt, Boomer 1 and 1 other person Thank this. -

Hey Ya'all ( I am headed to Ga so I'm working on my "Hillbilly" ) I wanted to share some of todays events. I dropped Rochester NY first thing today. It was an inside the building dock. You back in, bump the dock, unhook, drive outside, and when they have unloaded the yrailer you return and reattach. Plenty of room on the sides but tight on the front. I nailed the dock but when completed my tractor was crooked to the trailer. I must of pulled up 8 times. Very humbling experience, but I am a rook and noone was waiting on me. I go to my next pickup in Buffalo and it's a 22 degree dock, tight on the front, blindside. I set up started back and right before I enter between trucks I GOAL. Looking good so I swing it in. Nice arc, no oversteering, and in she goes. The driver in the truck beside me comes over and says " that was a very nice back, how long have you been driving?" I tell him 6 weeks and the conversation lasted for a half hour after that.
I wanted to make a couple of points with my story.
Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile.
You will hear alot of negativity out there. But there are some really cool guys also. Willing to help not just talk smack.
Well I hope the good backs start outnumbering the bad backs at some point. Until then I will just keep working at it no matter how many attempts it takes or what is said in the meantime.
ricrey99 Thanks this. -

Speaking of which.........Baratone stopped by Cartersville today to give us our 'hooking' primer while Greg did the road test on his newbie.... thanks for the advice and help, David. (As an aside, it's landing gear first, air and electrical second.....and there's a reason.... you'll be scheduled for remedial training as the syllabus and time allows.......
)
Backing almost all day.... was fairly uneventful until the last back up (mine) that ended up scrubbing the trailer with the air dam.
I figure it's all about learning...... and in a school like this, stuff like that will happen. Understand what you did wrong, (turned too sharp, then did not get out and check it once I heard a noise) and move on.
Didn't mean to hijack you, MoJo..... I'm just too sorry to start my own thread and I figured you wouldn't mind....... ( I promise not to make a habit of it)
Hidy Ho, boys!
