Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Yeah Ted,
Its a good size machine, a D8 is a big one too. Today was interesting moved two excavators one was a cat 330L with I think 3yrd rock bucket on it. And Big Bertha thats a Cat 345L with a hammer on it!!!
I thinks it the biggest excavator you can pull without taking the counterweight off of it.
All in a days work. -
are those local moves? or are you hauling through state?
-
I go all over the northeast, I try to stay in CT but when my custumers are slow I work for CAT John Deere And Timberjack, hauling equipment to dealerships, or jobsites.

As far as getting into hauling oversize loads, you may want to start with a flatbed company. This will give you experience with load securement. A good company to check into would be Hunt Specialized Transport out of Omaha, NE. They will train you in load securement, and you can work your way into doing permitted (i.e. oversize) loads. After a year or so of that, then you can consider applying to carriers like Keen, Daily Express, Anderson Trucking Service, Wylie, etc. All of those carriers hire company drivers.
Right now, the freight situation is so slow that many companies simply are not hiring. And when they do hire they can pick and choose the drivers with the most experience and cleanest safety record. Attention to detail and safety is paramount in the heavy haul venue.
As far as the discussion regarding dump trucks, I've moved CAT 773s, CAT 777s, and Terex MT4400 dumps.
I hope this helps.Attached Files:

Keen isn't hiring right now....they laid off about 75 drivers, and when they do start hiring again (maybe in the spring) they will start bringing back mainly the laid off drivers first

I would say look at Anderson up in St.Cloud, they do pretty good. Another company would be Keen as every one has suggested. Try Trinity Logistics Group, another company is E W Sanders I believe. And, one of my favorites is a company called Valley Transportation. There is Lonestar as well!

I got to operate a Case 330 for about a week cleaning up about 2 acrea filled with about 100 cars & trucks. with the thumb it was very cool to lift a mid 70 chevy 3/4ton & make the front bumper hit the rear bumper.
I too want to get into heavy hauling, but it seems no one is hiring due to the economy, but in a couple of years when things have picked back up & I have some exp. I will be making rounds with doghnuts & trying to get in...even as a swamper. -
ATS hires and trains oversize drivers. They have several divisions and can start you with flatbed traffic and move you into oversize. Keen has offices in Scranton and Savannah that I know about.
-
ATS is currently only hiring L/O. I talked to a recruiter today.
