Got 5 winches on this trailer where the locking part that keeps the gear from moving is rusted in the up position. Need some recommendations to get these things broke loose and usable. Tried wd40 and pounding it with a hammer. Anything better? Thanks.

Several types of penetrating oil aerosols on the market to break free rusted/corroded bolts and hardware. Most of them are better for that than WD 40. You can find them at any hardware, auto parts, or Wallyworld type store.
Spray the hell out of them. Leave them sit for a while. Spray the hell out of them again, then thump away with your hammer.
Safety Note: Do not spray penetrating oil in eyes. Do not inhale penetrating oil. Do not smoke while using penetrating oil. Do not use in confined space.
Further Safety Note: Do not hit yourself with hammer.

Mommas_money_maker, bullhaulerswife and AZS Thank this. -
That is how I fix mine. Squirt WD40, tap the latch up then tap the latch down. Rinse, lather, repeat.

if the above dont work, get you a crow bar and gently/carefully pry them down and if That dont work, get you a Torch! and lighter up! There aint NOTHING that WD40 and a Torch cannot fix!

I use PB Blaster, works great. That and your windh bar as a pry bar.

Even a small hand held propane torch would possibly work if your out on the road, you would be surely surprised what some concentrated heat will accomplish.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Im off tomorrow think I'll work those suckers over.

I think I would consider replacing them.

It's a company trailer.

Waste of money.....Just loosen'em up, Lube'em up and oil them occasionally.
If they're not bent, There's nothing wrong with them that can't be cured by regular maintenance.
