Never/ever drive over the road, and get paid a bag of peanuts on pay day. You're away from home/wife/kids,and your community too long anyhow, and "most" of those companies don't respect you-and will lie to you ( I promise you ).The recruiters are good at false promises, for the company has trained them this way-and I dare you to ask for 1-day off. Most of you guys with common sense already know this. Please go local, protect your families/pride.I have over 20 years experience/20 years of local driving/and pride. These companies have big "turnover" rates-i wonder why? You see these companies in the newspapers every day hiring-this is an indicator not to apply, use common sense. If I had my way,ill outlaw all over road trucking, and mileage pay.Go and find an hourly pay job.Listen to what I tell you,or you'll be sorry-or has it already happened to you?An over the road driver has "no life",get out immediately!!! Lee. Note:Owner op dudes are ok

While OTR trucking isn't perfect, I really don't see it being outlawed. Unless you think every city in the country has their own steel mills, lumber mills, or shingle factory. Maybe you have figured out how to grow oranges and grapefruit on Long Island. Next you will say it could all be hauled on trains. But not every city even has rail service, and I know every shopping center doesn't. I don't know why you are down on OTR trucking, but a lot of people enjoy it and make a pretty good living at it. And I could name a couple local driving jobs that advertise just as much as OTR companies. What's their excuse for needing drivers all the time, since local driving is such a great deal?

OTR is an awesome experience, and its a lifestyle if you don't change your LIFESTYLE to meet OTR needs your going to fail.

Now with the bad economy sure OTR pay is horrible because it can be, there is no driver shortage just a shortage of demand for freight, however when the economy recovers it will be way better, like it was before, even right now there are still truckers making 40-50k a year OTR, that's way better than flipping burgers, walmart stockboy, or just your typical 8-5 job.

Rail will never outphase OTR trucks as clients need their products in a timely manner, a team can get a trailer from florida to california in a few days, in rail it takes weeks.

OTR pay is only horrible if you let it be, if you're willing to work for crap and or haul cheap freight it's your own #### fault..
