Im just wondering. Have there ever been any class action lawsuits concerning all of the skimming of miles that goes on in the trucking industry?

Yep. SWIFT has one going against them right now. I doubt they will go anywhere as it's an industry standard to not pay hub miles and drivers have choices.

If you don't like what your employer does or how they pay or, or, or then pack your toys and find another sand box to play in. There's lots of work out there and there's lots of good paying jobs out there!

    BigBluePeter Thanks this.

Spoken like a true company big whig thanks. What im getting at though is instances where companies calculate paid miles by using the shortest possible route, but then route you around things like toll roads lengthening your trip sometimes significantly without compensating for the added work required and at the same time threatening to charge you if you use the route they calculated the miles by.

Kinda sounds like skimming to me. no?

It is hard to believe that with all the new technology available to calculate correct mileage from one address to another, carriers are still using the HHG guide for mileage. But, just like everything else in the trucking industry, " if it favors the driver, it will not change." I have always run percentage. But, for you drivers who get paid by the mile, I believe it is criminal what these carriers get away with.

As for the remark about SWIFT, This is not the days of learning how to drive, get a truck and go drive. Most of these people are at the mercy of these starter carriers for at least a year to get some experience and pay off their driving school. Those good paying companies you speak of are paying for experienced drivers. That is why they are good paying jobs.

Kinda sounds like something I would have figured out BEFORE I went to work for them.

Hey Jigsaw, both SAIA and Conway (LTL carriers) are in need of new drivers. They start you on the dock and you move up from there.

ALL the good jobs AREN'T reserved for those of us with experience!

While not actually a law suit about miles, it turned into one.

The former CFI lost one (a class action) many a year ago.

Yes thats nice, now go be an A-hole in another thred if you dont mind. Its pretty clear what side of the arguement youre on. Have something against drivers standing up against slavery? Itll never stop unless people stand up for whats right regardless of what company they work for. Probably not a benefit to you though, you sound like you are on the other side of the coin. Now be nice. You KNOW he walked into EVERY job and immediately asked, "Do you guys skim miles?"

And you KNOW, he asked drivers for that company. And found them to be 100% honest in their response.

See you have it all wrong.
I WANT drivers to stand up for themselves.
I WANT drivers to earn what they are worth (many are paid what they are worth which is little).
I want drivers to understand that they have choices about what they earn and who they work for.
I'm a truck driver like the majority here, I just refuse to work in a circus enviornment and wirk for peanuts!
