Looking to purchase a laptop based diagnostic set for our shop. Someone stole our Pro-Link Graphiq this past week. Any suggestions?

I think any laptop with a serial port, would work. Getting the software is the question.
-
Yeah that is what I am wondering about the software. I am good with computers and would hate to buy a package deal and pay a lot of money for a "set-up" that I can do myself. I have just never worked with nor seen a laptop setup. Just always used the Pro-Link.

We have a goodwill computer store here and that's where I would be checking for a used laptop. Serial ports are some what a thing of the past but they still use serial ports on routers and switches. As well for maintenance shops. Like I said, the software will be the issue. I tihnk if you buy the link setup, Doesn't it come with the software ?
-
Not sure. I sent an e-mail to Nexiq just a little while ago to see what they offer.

Here is a website I've purchased decent used equipment. These are machines that come off leases and refurbished. >> http://www.dellauction.com/

You'll need a Nexiq Usb-Link vehicle interface if your hooking up to On-Highway truck engines only. What software are you looking for? Cat ET, DDDL, and Insite?
-
serial ports let you use cheap adapters, like Inline I, Inline II, old Volvo adapter.
-
The laptop will end up being the cheapest part. Nexiq is about $600 to $700, then the software for the laptop is about that again. If you are looking to do all the major engines I think you are looking at about $4000. Correct me if I am wrong... Not sure, but I know it isn't cheap.

Thanks for the replies. I have yet to hear back from Nexiq. I will give them a day or so and call them.
We mostly work on Detroit 60 series, Cummins (N-14,M-11, ISX, ISM), and Cats (new and old), some DT466 engines as well.
