Truck is a dodge ram with a utility bed on it. its 8' long and 7' wide. i tried to use a magnetic base w a k40 antenna but its too tall and fell off roof a bunch on times. i only can use the 4' dual fiberglass antennas due to high issues and need the to be permanent. where is the best spot to mount these?
if mounted behind cab on top on utility bed distance between antenna is 7' and 9'6" tall
if mounted on front of bed and rear of bed, same height but 8' apart
if mounted staggered meaning one mounted front drivers side of bed, other rear passenger side bed. same height but 10'2" apart.
the truck has ladder rack on it too. only other option is to buy shorter antennas and mount on top of ladder racks if the bed is not a good place to mount.
on the cobra 29 i have, using one antenna compared to two is the same performance
need some advise
Dual Fiberglass antenna on utility truck WHERE TO MOUNT

WOW...Thats going to be tough with that ladder rack...I thought maybe it would be one that just hangs over the bed, not the cab too!
Outside of somehow mounting to the top of the rack (which would probably put the antenna too high, and hit every bridge you drive under) You could go with just one antenna mounted on the front fender...Not the "Ideal" mounting location, but sometimes you can't always have a ideal mounting location on every vehicle...
I had a similar problem with my Box van I work out of...I ended up mounting on the front fender which is not the ideal spot, but worked out just fine.

This is a "Home-made" bracket, but they sell fender brackets for lots of vehicles that are made for whatever you have...Problem with most of them tho, is they are sorta on the flimsy-built side...which is why I made my own...
If it were me, I would give up on the idea of running a co-phase set-up, and just go with one antenna on the drivers side front fender...Any place else you mount one and your going to have issues with that ladder rack affecting the antenna -
I bet there would a pretty good ground on that rack, I'm just saying

I don't know why you'd want to run duals anyway. I've found that one seems to always be better. With duals, if set up right I think have to be 7'8" apart will only achieve 360° receive. It wont do anything for TX.
-
Duals will make directional, you,ll lose receive to the sides, I mounted a 4ft fire stick to the driver side top of rack, works great, it needs to be above the rack to work metal near the antenna will ruin SWRs.

Oh yeah they make a L clamp designed to wrap around mirriors , you might have to buy longer bolts though, I had to for mine, its never gave me any problems in six years now.
