I finished my 8 year army contract last week!
Can you tell me how to get a job working the oil fields in texas or north dakota?
I do not have my cdl!
Any paid company training that you know of in exchange for having an honest man around?
Thanks.
Army veteran on the move!

Look on craigslist around Odessa/Midland in Tx and a few different towns in ND and make some phone calls and write some emails. I had a few responses but be careful who you choose to go with and make sure to ask alot of questions before you go. Housing is an issue in alot of those oil boom towns. I know in Odessa/Midland housing has skyrocketed in the last couple of years. Everyone wants a cut of your money.

Check out the oil companies web sites. Fill out as many apps. for entry level positions as you can. I did about 50 to 75 apps for Halliburton and Baker Hughes and a few others. I know Baker Hughes and Halliburton take people without their CDL and will send them through CDL school. I have got all rejection letters from Halliburton and interviewed with Baker Hughes and Calfrac.

Also try Schneider they have ads for tanker driver inthe oil fields and they have a Veteran's program that might work. You should have benefits you can use to get your CDL through the VA. Also contact DAV and see if you qualify for any benefits from them.

Army veteran,
You can use your post 9-11 Gi bill to get you CDL at an accedited school. Schneider has a apprentice program where you can get about $1000.00 a month from the VA for 36 months on top of your pay. I took my Army CDL and transffered it to a state CDL. That is not the case in all of the states check with your DMV. The job is hard and you need to be in decent shape but the pay is good.
Good Luck

DO NOT WORK FOR SCHNEIDER they are cutting rates like crazy. Let me ask you this would you want to cut yourself short every year between 10-40000 dollars. From what Ive seen and heard they top out at 65,000 while most companies start at 70,000HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thanks this.

I read somewhere recently FFE is getting into oil fields in W. Tx. FYI

Yes, a few employees of Schnieder and FFE have both started a couple of different threads on here over the last 8 months. These Bottom Feeder companies have strung the Drivers along..........read the threads for yourself. After many, many weeks of "Hang in there, we're fixing to get busy" it seems most of them were starved out. Some of these companies don't even own any of the equipment that's being moved around. They just move Schlumberger's equipment. The majority of the opinions expressed on here seem to agree that these companies are promising Drivers the moon and giving them not very much. It seems to me that Schlumberger is the real culprit, because they are making an attempt to cut wages for Drivers moving their equipment by outsourcing. If they could they would outsource the entire Oil Patch if they could. Save a buck, doncha know. Same old story as always. Across the board, everybody says that you WILL make 1/3 less wages ( or worse ) if you go to work for those guys. On the other hand, desperate people make desperate choices. Best Wishes, but looking elsewhere is a better move. Look up the threads on here. Not one single one was anywhere close to being happy after 3 months and apparently went elsewhere. They sure have been quiet on here for a while, that's for sure.
