Excavator chaining while I'm bored.

Yep...my old hands do the same thing. They will tell you to put the rear axle of the 4WD tractor over the 6th stake pocket back from the neck of an XL RGN and the weight will turn out just right. Always glad I work with professionals.

 

Yea we went thru that phase until the locals got tired of it and went to the governor now it's back to business as usual. They went so far once as to tell me that I couldn't even have extra chains binders or bedding in my sleeper that got old.

I am trying to gain as much information as I can, I am getting back into being an O/O and trying to decide between Step or RGN running out of Denver.

I have 6 yrs running flats but not a large amount of OD exp over 10' wide. my plan on the RGN side would be to run only up to 12' .

Before I ever hauled one a guy from JLG in Mcconellsburg sp? told me how it needed to be done. So the first ultra boom I pickup is from United or RSC, can't remember. Anyways the guy loading it really doesn't know how to operate so well but gets it on like I asked (how I was told by JLG).

Whenever doing something for the first time I always try to ask the manufacturer/shipper how they like it done or how it's be done in the past. Helps solve some guess work at times.

Any hoo, the place is fixin to close, I've already chained down and pull around the front to get my paperwork when the manager says that one of his lead guys said I should move towards the back some or I'll be overweight on my front trailer axle. He says whenever they are loaded like I have it they tend to come back to have it moved.

Well I have right weigh on truck and trailer, everything looks good and my rear trailer axle airs up higher higher than the front to equal out the weight. So I chalk it up to them not having had my type of set up in there before, but I did worry me a little. So went by the CAT scale on the way home and sure enough I was right all along on the placement. The bucket folds back on the top deck and the boom overhangs the front deck by a foot or so. Had I not asked the manufacturer previously I would have really been guessing.

And that's why I inquired about the excavators on steps because honestly if I ever have to haul a larger one (not actively looking to do so) I don't want to mess anything up.

 

Well the dozer is very easy...just load your drives as heavy as you are comfortable with. An excavator is only slightly more complicated because the bucket will rest on the deck and move a little weight further back.

Some of those long booms won't even work on a spread axle step. You will be over 40K back there, and unpermittable (not sure if that is a word). You actually need a three axle step.
