You're right. That's childish behavior. You're paid to do a job and are trusted to drive a $100,000 piece of equipment, but they want to make sure you turn a piece of paper in. He has too much desk time thinking of ways to be safe against CSA2010. With team work comes trust. But you have to play their games. Use their copier every day.
It says nothing about holding the inspection report. Just make sure your copy is signed off on and you're covered. Let the safety guy worry about his copy.

That will do it. Creative comic books got me before.

This only affects you if you are still pulling the same trailer the next time you return to duty.
Part 396.11 has guideance question #9 " Must certification of trailer repairs be made?
guideance: YES certification must be made that all reported defects or deficiencies have been corrected or that correction is unnecessary. The certification need only appear onthe carrier's copy if the trailer is separated from the tractor"
If you srite up a trailer defect and drop the trailer at a terminal and leave with another you have no reason not to turn in the DVIR. -
O.K. , here's my issue . What if the trailer is dropped at a customer and defects are found ? My opinion is the original should be left with the trailer to be signed off by the vendor and approved by the next driver taking it .

I don't know exactly but they were company Blackberrys . The company gave drivers Blackberrys with GPS but never bothered matching the locations with logs . They ping the Blackberry every 15 minutes when under load . There is probably a record of the locations when pinged .

It's our regional safety director insisting the original DVIR's be turned in daily . One driver sent me an e-mail saying they'll probably have a company policy for wiping our butts next . I replied in that case I'd happily send the original paperwork to safety .
buzuki6 Thanks this.
