Training is 240 hours which can be done in 6 weeks most of the time. I was unfortunate and my training will be about two months or 8 weeks. You get paid $450 a week for weeks 1-4 and $500 a week after week 5.

Once upgraded teams will make .16 per mile. Basically the truck gets paid .32 per mile and you split it between two drivers. So if you drive 6000 miles a week as a team your team will earn $960 divided by 2 means that each driver will earn $480 per week. This is for new drivers.

If you go solo and drive 2500 miles per week @ .25 per mile as a rookie you will earn $625 per week.

You can elect to take per diem pay which complicates the formula, but a few experienced drivers told me that it is a good thing. I need to research this more.

i thought .32 x 6000 is 1960 which makes it 960 a piece. they divide it twice and is that really what teams there drive i hope they dont hvae them sitting alot

Opinions of starter companies would be better posted in Questions From New Drivers, rather than cluttering a thread specifically designed to show students how to stay safe and sane on the mentor's truck. Just sayin.

The answer to your question is very subjective and needs to be addressed individually.

I recently met a student who had just finished his 240 hours of training with a bad mentor. Some of the stories I heard were just unbelievable. This particular student successfully passed the written test and road test, and got his own truck. Then the problems began... This student was never shown how to use the qualcomm (he was just used as a driver/logbook)! I will do my best to help him over the phone, but some things will be tough or impossible to explain without being there with him.
Newbies, PLEASE notify Driver Development within that first week if you are not learning how to use that qualcomm! After a couple of weeks, you should have most of the common macros memorized and know which macros to send and when to send them. Insist on using the qualcomm every day, and make sure you read all of the messages that get sent to the truck. Do not stay with a mentor who will not allow you to use the qualcomm!!

I explain to him why I wanted to go to the school that night once I saw the consignee was a high school and the delivery was at 0800, I would not give a person a direction and not explain the reason for not staying at a truck stop for the night.

Ok so explain this situation. The gps on the qc went down. I EXPLAIN to the student from day 1, do not depend on the qc gps because it can stop working at anytime. So every route we get are written down (I use both qc and written direction). On this trip the qc gps stop working he has written direction, instead of follow those he making up direction as he go along. We end up in a business section of the city, nothing but bars and night clubs on a Friday night

No other student I had make up his own direction as he going along down the road.

We always have more than one form of direction so if one fail you have a second option.

I believe there are some mentors who is doing that, and at the same time there are 3 side to every story, 1) the student 2) the mentor 3) the truth. I'm sayin this because I have seen students that show no interest of learning the qc. You show them and they would not one day pick it up and try to use it.

You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink.

New student and the QC. Don't blame the mentor because you didn't learn the qc. Keep bugging the mentor about teaching you the qc and also looking through it on your own. All student was given a sheet of paper with the basic macros on it. All my students had it, (its separate from the disc, its also on the disc)

when the mentor stop at a customer do the mac1 or mac 5. He cannot stop while putting the truck in nuetral and setting the brakes doing the qc at the same time (so there you had a chance to do it, so what if he gets piss off telling him you learning the qc)

While he/she checking in start on the mt call or loaded call. (Just don't press send until he check it)

After I SHOW an EXPLAIN to the students how to do them we do some together and then I tell them while I'm checking in/out start the macro and some of them don't care to do that. In that case I do it and keep it moving.

When you're waiting at a customer get the qc and cycle through the macros and ask question. Show that you are interested, maybe he will teach you something.

**don't just sit there for sightseeing or talking about sports, politics and religion**

I don't discus them, every one entitle to their own opinions.

There are also a lot of great students who are determine to learn the qc. I had a student who knew how to fill out all the basic the first week. He was determine to learn it and he did.
