I hear stories like this all the time. I just moved from the dock and pulled up 15 feet. When you look at the tracking you'll typically see movement from the shipper to a truck stop 5 or 6 miles away. If the drivers would call when it happens, and if evening support would transfer them to safety, we could advise a split break and keep the drivers in compliance. Depending upon the circumstances we could use Off Duty PC.

A friend just moved to schnieder. He said their elogs, or the one in his truck, has a line for Off-Duty Driving...
Mikeeee -
yeah when i was with forward air we had a line for off-duty driving

we use that also, however it would appear the most common use so far is to drive to your fuel stop, followed closely by driving to your consignee. It's disturbing, we'll let the powers that be decide how to handle this issue next week.

You should flag that you drove for the time it took you as driving, so if you drove 2 minutes to a truck stop, you flag "driving 2 minutes" in the remark section. Lets not read the below q&a as being able to log ANYTHING work related as off duty/sleeper. It states you can flag it "driving or on-duty not driving". All work related functions must
be logged as driving or on-duty not driving... If on elogs, this would change the way of logging.
Question 1: How should a change of duty status for a short period of time be shown on the drivers record of duty status?
Guidance: Short periods of time (less than 15 minutes) may be identified by drawing a line from the appropriate on-duty (not driving) or driving line to the remarks section and entering the amount of time, such as 6 minutes, and the geographic location of the duty status change.Pmracing and scottied67 Thank this. -
That "line 5" or off duty driving is sometimes refered to as "personal conveyance". Could be wrong, but I was told it can only be used if you are empty, and not on the way to a shipper under direction of dispatch. Like bobtailing to Walmart, or going to a movie or whatever. Also, you have to own or lease the truck, or have permission from your company to use truck as personal conveyance. Never heard of a company giving company drivers that permission, due to insurance, and company being tightwads.
